I would highly recommend you to take the 長隆酒店. The rooms and F&B are 5-star. I was told that normal rate for a twin room (weekday) is $600+. The hotel offer 20% discount for tickets to the Day Zoo and Night Zoo. So if you stay there, go for a package of accommodation and travelling (train or ferry). You will save some $$$. (I assume your 公安will also go, otherwise, the package may not be that attractive) Also, if you are going with another family, do consider sharing a room because the room is very very spacious.
Here is our schedule for your reference:
9:30 am leave HK from Shatin
1:30 pm arrive at hotel (by car)
1:30 am - 3:00 pm lunch in hotel
3pm - 4:30 pm Children's playroom
4:30 pm - 11 pm Night Zoo (a grand show at 8 pm) - go by foot
11: pm back to hotel and at 12 mn
Day 2
8 am morning call
8:45 am - 10:15am buffet breakfast at hotel (incl. in the package) - very yummy
10:30 am Day Zoo (shuttle bus available at hotel - 10 min's drive)
Stay in Zoo till 4 pm (White Tiger show at 2 pm - a must)
4:30 pm Back to hotel
5:00 return trip to HK
8pm Dinner at Shenzhen
10 pm Back to HK
Remarks:
1 If time allows, it's better to stay for 3 days. So you can enjoy the facilities at the hotel / tour around at night, have a good sleep and then enjoy the fabulous breakfast (take it as brunch). Then you may go to the "book city" in GZ before getting back to HK.
2. Swimming pool is available in the Hotel. but it will be open from May only. Other facilities incl. golf practice area, bowling, snooker.
3. Children under 1.1m do not require tickets to the zoo. (Cissy will be free LA)
4. The zoo offers "food" for the animals at RMB5/pack. It's very expensive. But feeding them is fun. So do bring your own "overnight" bread (for fish), bananna / carrot (for elephants) and if you can some long grasses (for the sheep/goats). You may get some bread from the hotel during breakfast.
5. Another hotel which offers shuttle to the zoos is 香江酒店 which is about 20 min away by drive. It is more reasonable but is very old.
