we did - 2 sets of coffee mugs.. tea leaf, hot chocolates, peanuts... etc may be people know we love eating.. all the junk foods...

yes, lots of presents ... but not me :-(:-(. my only present was from my younger daughter, she is much more have "sum kong" then my elder daughter

. she bought a little bear badge from AVON for me (i pin it to my cell phone bag - which was given to me by her too), a hand made decoration too.

we had not gone out, only family gathering on 24th. they are "busy" playing wii at home.

guess every one got Wii at home.
yesterday is my god son 18th birthday - he got his buddies stay overnight for the Wii game... (we are not invited) :-( :-(
i haven't had a chance to play Wii while we had x'mas eve party at their place, as I was too busy entertaining the oldies for the Mahjong game.
but my 66 enjoy that so much.... sweating all along while playing tennis.. i will have to try that some time in 2008.

party again tonight till 2008... so busy.. and spend $$ like pouring water and my body just inflated like balloon - eat too much...

Happy New Year to all. We stayed home today, doing the clean and tidy the house. My daugher's friends are coming to sleepover tomorrow.

i got 2 children at 3.5 & 14 mths now....& plan to move to Toronto in May/Jun 08 of course w husband.....

i want to stay at Markham or Richmond......but havn't yet started search....

hope if u don't mind to share w me yr experience or even teach me the way to live in CA, as we a new to CA.....

Welcome to our community!

Have you visited Markham/ Richmond Hill before? Depends where you are going to work, Richmond Hill will be more convinenent if you travel on hwy 404, 401. However, the house price is bit more expensive in Richmond Hill than Markham for the same footage. Also the housing price is very high; you may want to rent first and research where you want to stay before buying. For the first time buyer, you can have quite a few benefit like exemption of land transfering tax.

I think you have to plan where your child is going to school. We have free 3-full day kindergarten here at the public school. If you have to work and need full day kindergarten, you will need to go to private.

my plan at 1st is

1) rent townhouse or apartment 1st
2) stay in markham as full time ma 1st then wait & see
3) place children into public school (private is too expensive for me)
- BUT....only 3 days a week not Mon - Fri??
- is public kindergarten for age 4 only? how abt my little who just 20 mths....when can he go to school? HK is age 2 ma......

i never went to Toronto before!! But it doesn't matter

I'm fine.

For rent, since i need to search for living place after arrive, i think the only way is to stay in the hotel for 1st 2 weeks, any suggestion???

you can find some short term apartment and save some money.

Children can go to kindergarten in public school at aged 4. Some school offers 5-morning or 5-afternoon (half day) and some 2 full days + 1 alternate Friday. It depends on the school board. Children younger than 4, you need to put them in daycare/nanny/private school, etc. This is my situation right now. I plan to put my older one in a private school kindergarten 5-full days, younger one with a nanny or get help from my family. Not sure yet.

If you want to look for apartment in advance, you can check the www.mingpaonews.com . They have a Toronto version and there is classified. You can check check.

Dear All & PoohPoohMaMa,

I will moved to Markham on mid-march and will be 7 months on that time.
Now I'm shopping on bb stuff especially on the clothes coz I cannot bring too much and believe most of the bulky stuff should be cheaper than HKG.
Hope can join your community and sharing your experience/opinion when need. (or remind me what should do next)

does any mom know the handy man that will install the water softerner at home? we recently bought the water softerner from Sears, and need handy man to install it. Sears charges us about $300... any thing cheaper than that???

no la, as can't find any handy man to do the installation. and we simply return the softerner to sears, and wait to see if we found it later on. seems to me, Sears always got discount on that softerner.

have u installed the softerner at home???

i haven't think of anything for CNY. As MIL back to HK, so only 2 of us, not that concern about CNY. may just buy the "law pak go" & "kok chai" for BIL and prepared the red packets for the niece/nephew and the god children. and that's it.

this week - working at home - as my husband got the letter for the jury duty... so no car to send me to work..

thus snake king to surf the web "openly" at home

will spend CNY as usual I guess except having pot luck at fellowship. I may want to make "law pai go" this year with my pressure cooker. I haven't never made it before.

我每年都係出街買年糕﹐蘿蔔糕﹐我無打算自己整﹐無謂浪費咗D材料。

妳們會唔會同仔女買唐裝﹖我每年都買一套比阿仔。會去買新的利是封﹐舊年的利是封好靚﹐可惜整到一手都係金粉。

wow, each year a new clothes... where did you go for such? pacific mall???
i still using those old (HSBC) red packet from HK. never thought to buy a new one, but i do agree with you, as i am not a good cook, so just buy such "go" from outsides... and have a taste of it...
