Yeah, compare the stuff in HK, OZ is far more expensive....but my husband feel very happy in Mel, coz alot of things are cheaper than NZ!!!!

And he said the salesperson always give him a big discount....you know it never happen in NZ!!!! :evil: :evil:

如果我系HK已有一輛車買左保險,去到Oz再買一輛車又要買保險,一個人可否買兩份唔同地方的車保呢??

我呢2日去搞medicare card, 第一次去唔成功,原來佢要睇一d文件証明你係打算來oz長住先可以申請,唔知點解我老公就唔洗,當初佢只係show passport 就取到,結果要去2次激死.好在我運部車用左自己名,否則差d都申請唔到.佢地要睇幾樣証明,例如結束工作,結束acc....之類.

我昨晚同friend傾skype傾到成1點,所以你見我上,汽保我試問下我老公知唔知,我地架車都要供aud450每個月,仲加左幾百元幫玻璃窗加層防晒.

搞Medicare card其實真係只需要passport就得, 佢地只係要睇你個Visa類型, 不過依家有d政府officer好麻煩.

Hi all mummy,

I'm new to this thread. Though I see the birth of it but I've never joined as I think it's a bit embrassing for me to join this "Mummy Club" coz I'm a daddy.
Anyway, reading your messages is resourceful for me to learn more aobut living in OZ.

I've got the PR visa and is struggling whether, when & where to in OZ. If I'm to go, I will choose bewteen Mel & Brisbane. I have a frien in Mel and it willl be easier for me to start my new living in Mel. But the career opportunity in Brisbane seems to be better for me.

I learn that your husband & you are working nurses in Oz. May I ask you some questions:

My wife is a RN now working in HK (HA). I know OZ recognises HK RN qualification but they require them to have stringent English standard (IELTS score 7 or pass the medical vocational English test)to registered in OZ. My wife English is very poor and she was trained as RN in a HK hospital with Chinese as teaching medium. Are there any other ways to register as a nurse in OZ?

I'm glad to hear from you that there is no discrimination in your work place. Is that mean the hospital's management treat Chinese nurses equal and won't assign them to work on undesirable posts/jobs that the OZ don't want to do?

What's the average salary of a nurse in OZ hospital? Do you need to work shift hours & how would you look after your children if both your husband and you need to work?

Sorry for so many questions.

Hi, YuiBa,

The only way to register in Oz is pass the english test, did your wife try the "OET"(Occupational English Test)?? It's an english test for medical or nursing staff, although the test similar to IELTS i.e. reading, writing, listening and oral english, it's all about nurse daily work, e.g. writing->usually write a referral to patient, reading->read a journal and answer MCQ, listening->listen to the consultation or talk between doctor and patient and answer some short questions about their conversation, oral->2 role plays to do, the examiner will be patient or patient's parents and your wife will be the nurse, they will give your some hints about what you need to say in the role play and they will give you few minutes to prepare, they only test your wife english but not the medical knowledge so no need to afraid that when your wife don't know much about the disease in the role play.
OET usually will have exam on March and Sep. every year, you can find information from internet.

Your wife no need to worry about the discrimination, they are very friendly, when I work in Oz, they always ask you what case you want to do at the beginning of each shift because they will not assign case for you, they will let the staff to choose, they also will ask you whether you feel comfort in doing complicated case, if your wife don't want to do, she can voice out.

My husband and I need to work shift duty and here is using "self-rostering" i.e. your wife can write down the request on the monthly planner, if not much staff request at the same day, usually will ok, it seems your wife make the roster by herself, also when she start work, she can negotiate with her boss that how many days she want to work, from 2-5 days/wk, it's up to you.
My daughter goes to child care centre 5 days/wk, from 9am-5pm, my mum-in-law also migrate with us, so no problem in look after my daughter.
