All employees will want their companies to earn a big profit, then they can have a bigger share of bonus and salary raise. This in turn generates a positive economic cycle to the entire community, rich and poor.
Not spending the money on building the railway infrastructure doesn't mean that the money will be spent on social welfare ....

Remember, HK is very small and west kln is right in the middle of HK, within reach to most areas of HK with 30mins.
In fact this is the reason why the US is still divided into east coast, west coast, the mid-west, etc. Many people in the west coast has never been to the east coast and vice versa, you cannot imagine how "under-developed" their (people) transportation network is.

The cost may jump up twice if the entire station is built underground. I'm sure the experts had made their calculations, not us "just talking".
