i'm not surprised to hear that ... as it's in downtown SF. there're lots of gay ppl in SF.
definitely downtown SF is not a right place for families with kids to live in. don't even go to downtown SF at night by yourself.

Hello Isaac, I lived in Hayward for more than 10 years and just moved to Union City for half year. Reason: better schools in Union City. Eastin and Pioneer elementary schools have the highest scores in Union City, all the others are not that good. My son will be going to Eastin in Fall.

House prices now are really much lower! It's a good time to buy seriously. My husband always sighed that we should have waited until now to buy instead of last year. A similar house to what we have costs $100K less now than 6 months ago!!!

I still see quite a number of houses for sale in the neighborhood. Do you have an agent to help you? Let me know if you want more info.

Don't feel sorry by not calling me la. I know you and your hubby should be very busy in settle everything down. Good to know that you have family in Bay Area to help.

Maybe Fremont or Union City is better for kid to growth ... at least they can go to park and play with next door neighbor kid in the yard easier than in downtown. Hope you can find a house you like soon. We have 2 realtors who used to help us and my cousin to find houses and we find they both pretty "lo suc", let me know if you need the realtor info. Also, my hubby have a company truck if you need help to move big stuff around. We just live in San Ramon, not too far away.

I heard that school in Fremont may not be too good, except in Mission Hill area. I also think now is great time to buy ah, especially in good school area, the house price will be raise faster than other area when the entire market get back to normal.

How's Little Issac? Does he get used to the new life here yet?

hihi HappyMatt, SY_Mom and Mrs. Cho, thank you for all your info. and help. I take care of Isaac 24/7 now and cannot spare anytime online; therefore, I am really sorry for the late reply.
We are now living in my brother's house in Fremont. We go out searching house (those foreclosure, preforeclosure, and new house). We noticed that the house prices did fall a lot and one of my friend who works in Bank said they are expecting the house prices will still drop until the end of this year. Hopefully we can buy a reasonable price house.
Isaac is doing ok....I am exhausted taking care of him now and I miss my maid soooooooooo much. I am thinking about hiring a maid if I find a job, any advices?
Oh, by the way, Happy Mothers Day to all of you!

my bro-in-law just came to bay area for business trip and his wife came with him this time. i'm always jealous that they're much more "su fok" than us although they have 2 toddlers and both go to work. including their 2 maids and grandparents, there're 6 adults taking care of 2 kids and the older kid already in school. that's why they never wanna move to US.

also, the education in HK is actually more advanced than in the US.

Hi SY_Mom, I decided to come here because of my son and my hubby. I will only think about how good the air here is, how good the living environment....all the good things in here, hahahaha....I visited some new town houses in Dublin yesterday. We like it so much....do you know whether Dublin is a good area or not?

As I know, Dublin is good area ah ... ha ha ... I'm living in San Ramon which is next to Dublin.

I have been in those new townhouses and condo before, they are pretty nice ah. The area is quiet, but not too far away from store & mall. The best thing is we have the Alfer Center open few months ago, so can have dim sim easier than before. The only bad thing is pretty hot in summer ... but since you just came over from HK, I think the heat won't be a big problem for you ...especially all those houses in that area have air conditioning.

And what make me like Dublin & San Ramon area is the school ... almost all the school in the area have very high score. We rather spend more $$ to buy a house in good area, then send our son to a public school, instead of send him to private but need to spend few hundred to a thousand a month just for school fee.

i'd just checked the schools in Dublin. looks like only the elementary schools are ok. so, it's ok if u plan to move when yr kid go to middle school. if u don't plan to move until at least yr kid graduate from high school, it's better to get settle down in San Ramon or Pleaseaton instead. also, the elementary schools over there are even a little better than those in Dublin.

i know someone who used to live in Dublin but her kids went to private chrisitian school for elementary, and then they moved to San Ramon as they want their kids go to public middle school there.

btw, i don't know why almost all of my friends's kids go to private elementary schools although they live in Pleasanton and San Ramon. most of them go to the Valley Christian school in Dublin.

so, in case u don't like the public school in dublin, at least there's one more option - valley christian school. the tuition is much cheaper than those non-chrsitian private schools.

btw, did u say that yr husband's gonna work in redwood city? if so, it'll be a long commute for him from dublin.

I'm not sure if you know that some builders will give commision to the realtor (mostly 2%-5% of the house price) who bring customer to the sell office to buy a house. Since the economy is not good, some realtor will give his customer half of their commision in order to have more customer. Maybe you can ask your realtor about that issue, then you can get some $$ back ... to lower the cost of your house.

We checked out some new townhouse in San Ramon Windemere area, price dropped about $100K if compare with 2 yrs ago & great school district. I agree that school in Dublin is not as good as San Ramon even some Dublin middle & high school also get about 8 out of 10 points. Maybe you can check out those school rating website la. I found a website like:

My hubby may work in Red wood city, but not sure yet. Most of the biotech. companies are in Fremont, Redwood, San Jose....So, we can't make the decision now because as SY_Mom said commune is a problem.....
Moreover, the price for townhouse in DUblin is so high, ~659,000 :( Don't know whether we should wait for couple more months or not. Maybe we should rent an apt. in Freemont first....
THe houses in San Ramon is sooooooooooo expensive...we can't afford it.....

i was just curious and checked the price of townhouses in dublin - most of them are under $500k for around 1500 sq ft. more or less (approx. built in 2000 to 2008). i thought it's pretty good deal to buy a house at that price.
yeah, unforntunatley, the house prices are crazy in bay area (even in the not-so-good school districts). and the property tax is expensive too. has yr hubby considered working in the east coast which the house prices might be a little better??

anyway, i thought yr hubby already got a job. if i were u, i wouldn't rush to buy a house yet until hubby's job is settled down. there're still at least a few more yrs for yr son go to kindergarten, right?
also, sometimes it might be even cheaper if yr kid go to the not-so-expensive kind of private school such as christian and catholic school than buying an expensive house in the good public school district.

forgot how old is yr son ... there's an immunization/check-up schedule, and there're lots of shots need to be taken during the first couple years. u should check with yr pediatrician's office. i guess u should also show them yr son's immunization card from HK, so that they know what else he need to take, etc.
if u haven't found a pediatrician, u should find one who'll take your insurance.

not sure abt HK ... but in here, the immunization and well-check are usually done at the pediatrician's clinic.

I think Issac is now 9 month old, right? Baby here used to have 9 month check up & vaccin, then 12 month check up after that.

My friend also said the housing market won't be go back up until late this year or even later ah! But, I just found that some condo in San Ramon is pretty cheap (<$300,00 a little over 1000 square feet ... from yahoo real estate) ... of course not brand new, but area is safe & school around is not bad. Also, did you think about Alameda? I like that area too. Don't worry I'm a realtor and hard selling .... I'm NOT ... just want to tell you what did I find ... and go see open house during weekend always our weekend activity ... ha ha ... my hubby & I just want to know what's the market price & want to get some home decoration idea from others to apply in our home ma
