Actually, Sapporo taxi is not expenesive as toyko, if you want to save the hotel price and when you are with your kids while outside is really cold, you may consider to take a taxi, the driver is nice but the problem is they don't understand much English.
I remembered that I took taxi from Sapporo beer factory to JR Tower (10 mins), it's around 700 yen.
The JR Tower is a very nice hotel. We stayed there last Christmas, and got upgraded to a corner executive room. There was a massage chair in the room, and there are signs along the windows that explain the different buildings in front of you. It is really convenient as the train station along with a huge underground shopping mall is just below the hotel.
This hotel is well worth the extra dollars. We are going again this CNY, and will be staying there again.

I'm not sure of the room price. It is booked together with my ski package. We are only staying one night this year because we really miss one crab restaurant in Sapporo.
