I regret that I didn't attend the briefing session. Could you tell me more about it?

I chose local class at K1, I was told that Chinese would be much difficult than English if I want to put my son into SIS in the future.

I also go for international school but not SIS. ESF and Canadian Int'l School are my targets. My plan is to expose my son to the English speaking environment at school and put him to attend chinese class of Kumon when he will be 4 yr old. As my son is almost the youngest in class now (may be yours too), I think I can have one year buffer time if I change my mind to switch back to conventional.

About the briefing, I think both conventional and international streams are quite good. The principal showed us some worksheets done by the students. I am quite impressed that kids at their age could write so many difficult Chinese words in the conventional stream. I prefer the international stream because of my own plan and also the phonics system that follows Jolly phonics. Just some information for your reference:

Conventional stream - classes conducted in Cantonese, have English session everyday (2 sessions in a week will be by native English teachers, others by local teachers), still have phonics but may not be structured like Jolly, Letterland (from the materials I saw, it is like Letterland but the Principal told me it is some local phonics system instead of Letterland), communication with parents in Chinese, Maths follows a special methodology (most parents were impressed by the material shown at the briefing)

International stream - classes conducted in English, have Chinese session everyday but less (still have some) Chinese writing in IP2/IP3 than K2/K3, Jolly phonics, communication with parents in English, above half of the class are local Chinese, half are foreign kids, class size same as that of conventional stream, Maths does not follow the one in conventional stream (but I have ordered the material through school for my own use at home)

Thank you for your useful information!!! Are you working or fulltime mommy?

I didn't know that they would use Jolly Phonics for internation class. It is strange why they don't use the same material to teach phonics (I also like Jolly Phonics, I was a little disappointed that they would use Longman for phonics when I received the booklist from the school).

On the other hand, I am very happy to know that they will teach Maths using a special metholdology.

BTW, have you planned any extra curricular activities for your son during Summer break?

I am a working mum. I did not arrange for any extra curricular activities during the summer holidays since most activities require kids to be at least 3 years old and I also intend to take a short trip out of town. Have you planned any? Any suggestions?

I joined a swimming class with my son at the Club House. I also enrolled for the summer course at Good Health, because no one can take care of my son during the Summer Break.

Where do you plan to go?? I also want to have a family trip but I don't have any holidays at the moment.

I have taken 3 weeks' leave during my son's summer holidays. Plan to go to Tokyo for a short trip. I wish to join the Kid A painting class. I tried to take my son to Kid A and observed other kids. He pushed me away, apparently did not like the place. Last night I asked him again whether he would like to learn playing piano (not actually piano but music class) or painting, he said painting. I may take him again to Kid A. If he is okay this time, I may join their classes.

Is kid A next to HSBC. If yes, I think this one is good as we always pass by the shop and see their students' pictures which are wonderful.

May I ask about the piano class? is it in South Horizons or somewhere else? I am waiting for Tom Lee. but it seems I am in a long waiting list.

I am also on the waiting list of Tom Lee. Are you also waiting for the 3 yr old class at Tom Lee? The one I mention offers summer class. It is in Central http://www.musicroom.hk. Not exactly a piano class but should be a music class. If you look for faster queue than Tom Lee, you can first try those with a shorter waiting list like Aberdeen (Causeway Bay and Wan Chai definitely need us wait longer). I also know that weekdays class can offer a place much faster. Or you can try Parsons at Times Square. I think it is still convenient to us. My son always plays his Twinkle Twinkle in piano at the Parsons' shop. He sings the Twinkle Twinkle and at the same time presses any keys he likes. That's the way he plays piano.

Yes, Kid A is next to HSBC. It recently opens a new shop at the east shopping mall too. But the class for 2.5 yr old will be at the one next to HSBC.

Thank you for your information, I will try to contact them later. You son is so great, he already knows how to play Twinkle Twinkle at this early age, how long has he been learning then?

About painting class, I think I will try Kid A as well, I originally wanted to know what painting class is good except Kid A. Has your son started the painting class?

I enrolled Tom Lee when my son was two and expect to wait for at least one year for the 3 yr old class.
My son actually cannot play Twinkle Twinkle. He only sings Twinkle Twinkle and press any keys in the piano with the rhythm. That's how he plays piano. So, he can also play trumpet, violin and any other intruments he can imagine.
I have not yet enrolled to Kid-A but may do so depending on whether my son likes it or not.

I applied Tom Lee, too. Which Tom Lee (Causeway Bay, Wan Chai ...) have you applied ??

I also dont know my son will like painting class or not, because I was told by the teacher he must quickly use a towel to clean his hands every time after paiting. My son doesn't like his hands dirty since birth.
