Just wondering whether u delivered your children here as I 'm going to delivery my bb in mid july, a bit worried--> first time pregnant, high age too ( 35 ).. any experience that u can share? =)

however, as the price is really cheap so my godchildren's family still go there for dinning gathering most of the time.

Hi Torontolim,

I delivered both of my children in North York General Hospital. Have you visited a OB for regular check up? Don't worry. I have known quite a few moms who are over 35 and have no problem.

Do you attend prenatal class? It will help you what to expect during the hospital stay. I had a pretty good experience during my stay at NYGH last time.

As I live in downtown area, so the hospital that i'm going to delivery is the " East Toronto or eastern toronot, ".. ha.. I forgot the name of it.. anyway.. wish it is good
Yes, visited the OB 3 times already , but not yet for the parental class, will do the class later.
sometimes when i see the forums on the HK side, it is so different, they can see the doctor or ultrasound whenever they want,.. which is not the same here and seems like they take a lot of tests...

btw.. where you normally buy those bb stuff, is it Toy'r us, wallmart...etc?

Hi Torontolim,

I am sorry that I am not familiar with Toronto East Hospital. I only know most of the people in downtown will go to Mount Sinan, but it really depends on where your OB registered.

Yes, the system here is quite different from Hk because we are all free. We cannot request the test if the OB think it isn't necessary. Did you have test for down syndrom? You will get some blood samples at 12 weeks and 16 weeks. Then measure the neck skin by ultrasound at 12 week.

After that, you will have a detail ultrasound at 18-20 week. Then test for Group B strip at 30 weeks (or 28 weeks?)

I usually buy the stuffs at Walmart, Babies R Us (inside Toys R Us), Sears depending on what kind of things. Babies R Us would have more selections. Walmart usually has no discount. Sometimes if you can catch the big sale, Sears and Babies R Us would be cheaper than Walmart. Which part of downtown do you live? I don't think there is Walmart in your area... Actually you can sometimes find cheap stuffs at Winners for baby clothes.

If you have family coming from HK to visit before baby is born, you can ask them to get some clothes/wash cloth from HK.

I bought the baby basin from IKEA for $9.99. It's big and non-skid. It's really good.

Yes, my OB registered in the Toronto East, so I have no choice, I havent go to the hospital and check how it is, hope it is ok...

yes, right now i am 25 weeks, so done 2 ultrasounds already and so far so good... :).. you know, I am so afraid of pain, really,......and I asked my OB whether I can have the c-section or not last time, guess what he said, he said " NO NO ".. haha.. i know in here, you have to try nautrally first,.. well..

I live in Front/Spadina ( the Cityplace there ), so there is no wallmart nearby, but is ok, as we normally drive up to T&T, wallmart,..etc during weekend as not much choice in downtown and some of the stuff are expensive.

You know what, I heard someone requested for C-section for human right reason and she succeed! Well, you can try again. ha ha. But I also encourage you for natural birth. You will recover much better. First time, I had epidural and second I insisted not having it. I recover much better second time. Natural is always the best.

If you travel to uptown, you can visit Dear Born at Yonge and Doncaster Ave. www.dearbornbaby.com It has many selection. You can find some special brands that you cannot find in common stores.

waw.. not having epidural .. you are really brave !

right now, i 'm searching here and there for the baby stuff and info on giving birth as I am a bit new in Toronto.. wish me luck !! and I am so happy that I find this forum and have all the good advise and from you too :)
btw, did u eat anything " special" during your pregnancy ( like those chinese stuff - Fa gua..etc ) , just like the mommy in HK ? I dont as I dont know how to cook that stuff..

As for cityplace, frankly, it is good for investment ( you can always find someone who want to rent your place !even your parking space ! )but as for living, I guess it is only good for small family. Enviroment is OK, just like you are living in HK ! Guess what, I live on the 38/F .. haha..
Rigth now , me and my husband are having a headache on how to rearrange our furniture so that we can free 1 room out for the bb room !!

yes, I did eat Fa gow, Hoi sum during pregnancy. It's good for you and baby. My mom made all sort of soup for me. I know some place would sell already soaped hoi sum. You can make the soup with that. I would follow all the traditional practice like not washing the hair, not going out within the month.

Do you have people helping you after giving birth? Especially for the first time mom, you would need help because you would have a great adjustment. For me, second time mom, I can adjust a little easier than the first one.

oh.. where to buy soaped hoi sum? and what kind of soup we can make from it?

my mom who is in HK will come in late June ( my due date is mid july ) to help me to take care of the bb, she probably will stay here 3 months.

I am not sure because my mom told me that. You can check out "Shing Hing Hoi Mei" and see if they have that.

for fa gow, you can soap them yourself. I donno what kind of soup ah... but my mom recently made me "grey chicken", gay sze, fa gow, hoi sum, and some other material. you can ask those people from hoi mei store and they should know what to made.... or you can search on the website and find any recipes for that.... sorry. I am not good at making chinese soup ah. I totally rely on my mom.

i used to buy the "hoi mei" in the first markham place the shop called "kam yuen". they do have the soaked fa gow and hoi sum as they always asked us to buy. But since my 66's sister do all those for us, so I just get from her lor.

for the hoi sum, and fa gow, i used to make chicken soup or "pork tenden+ apple" (chu cit).

有排攪架,call人嚟整仲要排隊架,因為好多人都會同時係咁,有排等架

I wanna share something here. We park our car on the street in front of our house on the weekend. When we came home, we found out it was hit by someone. Obviously from the damage, we can tell it was hit from our opposite neighbour. However, no one says anything. We saw their van has a damage at the back. Actually, they used to have a small car, but they get a van recently. we don't recall seeing that van. But interstingly, since the accident happened, they have been parking that van the backward (back toward the house).

Unfortunately, we don't have the guss to knock on their door and ask.... Since my hubby is fixing car, he said he will fix the body...

I know we should not park the car in the street, but we are so upset that people hit and run.

搵人整都搵左輪呀,因為一d人又話咁整,一d又唔係,仲有d好鬼貴

最後都係搵對面屋整過果間公司,好彩佢又整得幾好喎

我地間屋算好喇,我地住左10幾年先有d咁嘅事,整果個人話佢整過d兩年幾新屋呀
