Totally understand that it's so exhausted when you have mastitis and have 2 kids, the same thing to me. Why can't you directly nurse your baby? It's the best way to recover as baby's sucking power is really strong. Your doctor should be able to give you antibiotics which is safe for breastfeeding. My ob doctor told me to feed more often and pump if my daughter's sleeping. I pump or feed every 3-4 hours and when I felt it full and hard. The pumping time depended on if I could clear my breasts. At the beginning, it's difficult and painful. Hot press really worked for me and I helped me to pump out more easily. After pumping and feeding, I hand expressed more to clear up my breasts. Even though it's quite painful, it's effective. If you cannot sleep because of the pain, you can use cold press afterwards. Some people said that it may reduce the milk production but when the problem is milk duct clog, I would prefer to reduce it a little bit and work to increase it after I recover.
I have antibiotics for 7 days and I had 4 days high fever. Not until the 5th day that my breast was not that clogged. I don't think that antibiotics affect the milk reproduction. If you do not take antibiotics, it's no way that you can recover from mastitis. You may not want your baby to keep drinking the clogged milk.
5-6oz is pretty good for your baby is just 2 months old. When the baby grows older and eat more, you will have enough milk if you keep breastfeeding skin to skin and pump regularly. No worry, even though you need to supplement with formula, it's not too bad. How much your baby is eating now? Why you so concern about the milk production? For my case, I had a lot of milk, 6-8oz each pumping but my daughter eats so little (even now she's 10 months old, she can still eat only 4-5oz each feeding) and a lot of my milk was used for bathing or just was tossed. What'a waste! So, the principal is to make sufficient milk, not too much milk. Otherwise, you may easily have mastitis if you cannot clear the breasts often.
