Hi 高齡產婦,

You do NOT need to check the DHEA-S level before you see your ivf doctor in the public hospital. It is just for your own reference to see how your body is absorbing it. However, I suggested you checking the Day 3 FSH before you see your public doctor because if the FSH is high, just don't see them that month and don't tell them the number. I fear that they reject you forever once you have a high FSH.

I checked that website again and it works. I actually ordered one bottle from that site and I got it already.

Basically, micronized DHEA has much smaller (micro-particles) particles and is easy for absorption than the bigger particle in regular DHEA. The doctor fears that even though we take 75 mg but actually our bodies do not absorb the full dosage. Pharmaceutical grade means it has the purity of 99% of DHEA. Dr. Gleicher just said we have better control of the absorption if micro. pharma. grade one is used.

I personally think that it is not that big a deal between the two kinds. I checked already that my body is absorbing the
regular one quite well indicated by my blood test.

I know theefficancy of the medicine is not 100% and you take 3 x 25mg perday as your doctor prescibed. And your DHEA-S blood concentration(405 ug/dl) reach to a higher limit (normal range (34-430 ug/dl).Do you know whether thisDHEA-S will accumulate in the blood stream ordengenerate in every day. secondly, whether 25mg DHEA per day isenough in your case.

Hi Frisbe,

Of course I have similar problem like high fsh(highest at 12.8) and failed one ivf. The last ivf is done in Prince of Wales Hospital as private case. I had the highest dosage 450iu all the way. With 17 injections, I only got 4 eggs with 2 fertilized. Since I had suffer pain right after the 1st injection, the pain under my right breast started at about 8pm on the day of injection and got worst in the middle of the night, I could hardly breath. The pain lessened in that morning around 8am. I went to pwh and told the doctor about it, but of course she would say that it should not be related to the medicine. If not, why the pain would have time frame?? Well, I am still recovering from the ivf in March and plan to move to private doctor for better monitoring.

Do you visit Dr 梁啟文? How much does he charge? What is the dosage used during your ivf process? Thank you very much for sharing all the information with us, I really appreicated it and learn a lot. Would it be possible to share your ivf process so that I can learn and prepare for my next ivf.

my fsh was 8.8 before ivf, seems okay. I would like to try DHEA too, but my c6 worry about the side effect of the homone as my body is very responsive to the Gonal-F. Well, we understand it is different from Gonal-F but he would prefer to take any medication after consultation.

As for acupuncture, it there any good one you can refer and where, how much does it cost?

Dear Friends,

I am glad that I can help because I went through so many ups and downs and disappointment. I can really understand your worry about the side effects of the DHEA. I did not want to take it even though I knew about its benefit to fertility in the medical journals back in last Sept. However, after I failed two ivfs and 5 cycles of stimulations (IUI), I realized that my egg quality is getting worse each time. Just last month, I had to cancel my ivf because I only had 1 egg big enough. Therefore, I am willing to take the DHEA only 5 weeks ago. To my surprise, the improvement is so dramatic that I have to believe that the DHEA really works as what the medical report showed. I did not tell people that I am taking the DHEA, however, 3 people independently told me that I look so young during the past week. I was laughing to myself when I heard that. DHEA is claimed to have anti-aging effects too, may be I also get this benefit.

My current private doctor is Dr. Milton Leung (Leung Ka Kong). His clinic number is 2523-3007. I had two previous ivf doctors in Hong Kong, one in the U.S. His skills, knowledge, and experience are very good. I think that experience in doing ivf is very important because he can adjust many different things based on your body's response.

For example, My first ivf doctor refused to stimulate me when I first saw him on Day 5. I missed a cycle at this old age. However, Dr. Leung started my stimulation on Day 6 after checking my blood this cycle. So far the results are quite good.

All my ivf doctors are in Central. Actually they all use Sanitorium lab. They all charge about $100,000 per cycle including everything. I trust the Sanitorium lab. Even though my egg quality is bad, they can fertilize ALL my eggs with ICSI in their lab. No waste of my eggs. I heard many sisters saying that the majority of eggs are not fertilized in other labs This will waste your eggs.

It is hard to face the price. My thinking is that if other doctors are not good, I just waste my money even though they may be cheaper. If you are young and does not have high FSH, which doctor you use does not matter. However, when we have to overcome so many obstacles, high FSH, low number of follicles, and poor egg quality, then doctor and lab make a BIG difference.

Did your doctor check for you whether you suffered from OHSS (Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome)? This can cause death if it is serious. Stimulation must be stopped if this happens. I did not pay much attention to it because I do not suffer from such a problem. You can search the internet and see whether your symptoms are similar to the OHSS.

Thanks for your sharing, I totally understand that it took us so long and so painful to come to this stage. We really do not want other sisters walk in our shoes. I did not believe DHEA before when I had to cancel cycle last Apr.

After studying a lot of researched in the US and my friend's secessful story, I decided to have a go.

Pls remember that DHEA is not a magic drug, you have to know your situation well before you start taking it.

I would like to ask you about the lab in Sanitorium hospital, do you think it is much better than other private hospital? I only got 2 egg fertilised in my last ivf, even I got 2 eggs, but my husband got big sperm problem too.

I only got 3 eggs in my Nov ivf cycle and they were all fertilized by ICSI. Only good lab can have high fertilization rate with ICSI. The Sanitorium lab can also incubate immature eggs. The nurse there told me that a patient's eggs were all immature and they all reach maturity in their lab. Therefore you do not waste those smaller ones even though stimulation cannot bring them to maturity. I had one immature egg before and it turned out to be the best grade one among all.

Every step affects your chance of success. We need to maximize our chance along the line. Since your husband has sperm problem, it is important to have good ICSI to fertilize the maximum no. of eggs. Otherwise, it just wastes your eggs. If you read the success rate of the U.S. ivf centers, you can tell that the range is quite wide. Some has zero success with women having high FSH. Therefore, they tend to reject those women who would affect their statistic, make them look bad. This is why I mentioned to you before that the public hospital rejected you because they just cannot do a good job for it. If we do not have so many obstacles, then any decent ivf lab/doctor is OK.

Frisbe,

I have told doctor about the chest pain, however, she said that it should not be caused by the medication. I have went thru one to two articles about OHSS, I did not have the rest of the symtoms, so I guess not. I had it fix by my Chinese doctor as it was 筋膜發炎 and caused by the high dosage of homone. Later my shoulder suffered the same issue and got it fixed too.

Well, now I am taking a break for my body to recover from the previous ivf. Do you need to take any birth control pill or medication before injection?

Dear Stickyrice,

I tried one cycle with birth control pill for 16 days before injections. The outcome was not too good. Some doctors in the U.S. believe that birth control pill is not suitable for older women because it over suppresses the already less active ovaries. This cycle, I use a much lower dose of Gonal-F (225 IU) and started stimulation on Day 6. I got a much better result. The protocol of stimulation can make a difference in the outcome.
