The fireworks are really fantastic, even part of them are simulated. The Opening Ceremony is, in fact, just one big performance. It’s ridiculous to comment that any visual effect of a performance is “faked”. Li Ling also wasn't actually running around the top of the stadium. It was actually the harmonization of tradition and technology which made an impressive good show.
It's quite disappointed that as good a performance as it was, some western journalist wants to nit pick about small, inconsequential things in order to make it seem as though it wasn't as spectacular as most individuals perceived it to be.

you can take a look at some forums in mainland china, look at the newspapers in hongkong, you will find that not only "some western journalist wants to nit pick about small, inconsequential things", but a lot of our compatriots also said so!
