Because of the long hours of work in audit / CPA, it is definitely harder to maintain a balance between a family and work. I have PM you a message about the chinese doctor.
I went to see my OB/Gyn in HK in Dec last year and she thinks IUI might not work on my case and she thinks doing the IVF will be more logical. She said IUI is helpful for people who has Sperm difficulty such as low count or has hostile cervical mucus. However, I don't have these problem. I want to take Chinese medicine for few months and then consider IVF in the Summer.
Long time no chat..... How is fertility treatment/chinese medicine going for you?
I have been extrememly busy studying for the cpa exam and I haven't had a chance to see the Chinese doctor yet.......I don't even want to try IUI anymore and I'm planning to try IVF end of the year.
I found out that FPNC has a financial program called Advanced Reproductive Care (ARC) which is a reimbursement program to refund the medical cost if the treatment does not result in a live birth. The refund program is available on the Three, Two, and One Cycle Plus package.
I remember you told me that you bought the One Cycle Plus package which include one FET. Did they tell you about the refund program at FPNC?
I will go to couple of the FPNC seminar and learn more about their treatment package and options.
I just came back from HK for vacation. Good to hear from you again. I stopped the Chinese med for a month due to the vacation and will return to see him again for one more month or so. I planned to have a consultation with FPNC in Jun and was hoping to start the IVF treatment in Jul. But I just know that I may need to go on a business in that month, so I may need to start the IVF after the trip.
They mentioned the refund program to me before, but it's more expensive than the regular plan. Plus at that time, you have to try 3 cycles before they will give you back the money. Based on my case, they didn't recommend me to use that. Wow...now they have 1 cycle money back too. I think they are having more selection than before. Let me know when you find out more info on the packages and options. Thanks.
By the way, if you have decided to use FPNC, you should get a personal consultation with them to go through your history. Because you may not get start the real treatment until you did all of their require exams. That may take another month or so.
Hope you had a great time in HK. I was introduced to a Chinese doctor based in Fremont from a friend and I have started getting Acupuncture from her. She recommend me to do Acupuncture once a week but I will probably do it once every two week because I don't wanna drive to Fremont every week. ( I live in Palo Alto). Her Chinese medicine is in powder / Capsule form so it is easier for me. I'm too lazy to cook the herb at home!!
I will definitely start the fertility treatment again after Aug and I think I will go with FPNC because it is more affordable than PAMF and Stanford. Are you going to see Dr. Purcell for your IVF in the summer? I found that FPNC has many doctors and it is hard to choose one based on their bio.
I'm wondering when you had the successful IVF last time, have you ever planned to have twins?
Yes, I think we will stick with Dr. Purcell although she usually is not the one who do the ER and ET for me anyways.
My husband is so afraid to get twins because he thinks that it will harm my body. On the other hand, I would love to have it because I don't have to go through the IVF again. But this time, we both afraid to have twin because we don't think we can handle 3 kids!
Having twins definitely has higher risk..... but it seems like a good option for women who try to conceive through IVF. 2 for 1 deal. Anyway, I just hope that I can at least have one child........ and don't want to be greedy for twins.
Lately, I'm having some fear toward what if I cannot conceive through IVF...... I really don't know how to deal with that outcome.
BTW, I was looking at FPNC's team on their website, but I didn't see Dr. Purcell on it. Is she still working at FPNC?
You are right. I don't see Dr. Purcell in their website either. I don't know if she is there anymore.
Don't put too much pressure for yourself. When I did my IVF, I never thought that it would be succeed in the first time. I just thought the first time was to test the water. I believed the more I did, the higher the successful rate I would have. Plus you are still young, you have a better chance.
Hi, have you decided which month you will go for the IVF?
I'm gonna go back to HK for a short vacation in Aug so I decided to do the IVF in Sep or Oct. I hope we can get it done in one shot this year!! BTW, was it painful when they retrieve your eggs? Also, I always wonder if the baby will be born healthy through frozen embryo.
I'm studying like crazy for the CPA exam now... and hopefully I can get it done before I start the IVF.
I will have my consultation this Thursday. Dr. Purcell is not in practice anymore. I made an appointment with Dr. Nelson this time. He is a very nice guy. Hope everything will go smoothly as last time.
Hi yoyocutie, it is great that you are moving forward with the IVF. I have been extremely busy and can't find a time to start the whole process yet.... very frustrating. I hope I can begin the consultation in Oct/Nov.
Dr. Nelson seems very experienced and professional. Once I start the consultation process, I would like to book Dr. Nelson as well. I look forward to hear your feedback on him. All the best to your IVF and keep me posted on your progress!! GOOD LUCK!
How's your CPA test? I will start my treatment in mid August. I should get my result in beginning of Oct. Cross my fingers for it. Just realized that FPNC is an in-network clinic for my insurance company since last year, so I only need to pay $2K for the whole treatment.
I finally completed the CPA exams :) it was very PAINFUL to study for the exam in the last 6 months. It is a such a huge relief to get it done
It is great that your company insurance covers IVF. I checked that FPNC is in-network of my company insurance. However, the insurance plan statedcthat it doesn't cover ivf. Wonder how the insurance works on this situation.
so you are a CPA now? Congrat!
my insurance plan stated below:
Infertility:
6 In Vitro Fertilizations and Artificial Inseminations up to a $25,000 Lifetime Maximum.
20% of Eligible Expenses after deductible
$30 Copayment per visit
Thanks! It was like "hell" to study for the CPA exam. I'm so glad that I finally got it done and I can start the fertility treatment.
Your insurance plan is very generous on fertility treatment! I'm very jealous.... My company insurance only covers diagnostic and fertility drug. I will have to pay for the IVF / IUI ><
Is everything going well with you on the IVF ? I look forward to hearing a GOOD news from you. Do you have a positive experience with Dr. Nelson so far?
He is a very nice guy. He did my Egg Retrieve (ER) on my first ivf and Egg Transfers (ET) on my 2 Frozen cycles. Although he is my main doctor, but you don't actually see him everytime when you have an ultrasound visit, nor ER or ET. I guess the main doctor is only for making the decision on the medication dose.
