Hi Buddies,

Do you have any recommendations of good piano teacher for my kids? My existing one has to leave in Sep. She comes weekly to our home for giving lessons.

Now, I got a referral. But we have to go to the teacher's place, not having lessons at our home. Moreover, the hourly rate is quite expensive. $450 per hour for my son and $550 per hour for my daughter. Moreover, she advises me that the lesson has to be one hour each kid at least.

Currently, I am paying $300 per hour and 1.5 hours total for 2 kids. So, a considerable increase in piano fees then.

Is the new teacher charging on the high side? Honestly I feel a bit expensive.

Do you have any good recommendations?

My daughter is going to have her Grade 5 exam this October. But the existing teacher has to go definitely as she will study aboard in sep. Need a new teacher urgently.

Please help!!

GN4,

1. Really need 1h for G5 and G5+ ga. But for your son I think 45 mins should be suff.

2. $450 / $550 per hour is, to me, v expensive. Piglet's piano teacher also comes over to teach, and she does not look at the clock, instead she teaches all she has to then leaves. I am now paying her $1000 / 4 lessons. Includes the time for piglet to chat on Lego. (She doesn't ask for any increases, I just check with the TL rate once every few months and see whether I'm underpaying her.) But of course it depends on the piano teacher's quali. I'm not sure of piglet's piano teachers' quali but she is a regular teacher herself and should have MEd, I think she teaches Music in a pr sch on HK Island.

3. Once it comes to G5 you really need a good teacher. I have a nephew who teaches older kids (not younger ones) but he teaches at home near Austin Rd, so not for you. He graduated from APA and teaches up to Dipl level. Piglet's piaino teacher is referred by him.

4. Wa, but your daughter's G5 exam is in Oct and the teacher leaves in Sept !! That's an emergency ! Want me to ask my nephew ? (actually son of one of my many many cousins)

TL's rate for G5 is $1100 to $1260 for 4 lessons, 1h each.

The PC guard problem has been resolved.

PCCW technician taught me step by step to remove the old PCG and re-install again.

It is normal now!

The HDD is very cheap wor... I think I will buy Verbatim 1TB.

DGS got 3 10A student and DBS got 2!!

A bit disappointed that SPCC has none this time .....

In counting number of points for the 6 best subject (max 30 points), does it include chinese and english subject as well?

I fully agree with you.

I tend to put more emphasis on student conduct, own responsibility, human relationship and other intrinsic value that can hardly be measured by exam results.

But already asked piglet's piano teacher and she says she has a friend who is FT piano teacher will ask her woh. Will let you know.

Nowadays ppl always say that the DG principal only pays attention to results (competition, academic results) and forgets about the DG spirit and family ties. And the winners are usually invited to join DG. In our days we were as concerned with winning - as an honour for the school, but CJ is much more human. eg Sisters / daughters will have higher priority. Its more mercenary nowadays. :tongue: You should understand what I mean since you also come from the old grant schools.

A few yrs ago there was a musical about the school, after winning eg inter schools sports comp CJ (the headmistress) would go down (from her 1/F office) to congratulate the girls and celebrate with them. In contrast, the girls had to go up to the subsequent headmistress' office to notify her about their good news. So you know the diff in how they treat the girls and the school spirit.

Have you been near the school campus recently ? Big pig said the speed of tearing down the school buildings was rarely seen ! Already down to the ground !

Hi BS,

I feel honoured to have watched that musical. My daughter was a little cow in the Nativity scene. She was P1 then. Really looking forward to seeing another one. According to customs, is there musical once every 5 years?

Thanks very much for your rescue --- finding a teacher for me. My daughter is going to have percussion exam, piano exam and theory exam in Sep and Oct. So, she has to catch up everything. But, she does not feel the pressure. Still chit chat all day and happy with her book indexing thing for the 2 new bookshelves.

Last time when I rode on 104 bus (it was just around June and we have just moved out for 2 months), I noticed that the tear down was already in progress. Quick huh?!

If your girl needs help in Theory exam, I noticed that YMCA Hin Keng Estate has somebody teaching G5 theory 1:1, reasonable px. Must be member but you need only pay $20 kid / $50 family.

The kids in that centre behave quite well, the place was renovated around 2y ago and still quite clean, the staff there are quite stern and would scold naughty kids, in general OK for attending classes. Piglet says he likes the place cos the "lessons" are more interesting than those in TST YMCA.

88K bus runs from Hin Keng terminus to Shatin Rail Station / Yeti area.

let me know if piglet's teacher referral is not available. I can try to ask one of my friend, she used to be teaching in sort of music center and should have some referrals also. By the way, will you consider to go to the teacher's home ?

My girl is going to take the Oct Theory exams also. I just make use of the weekends to go over with her and we will kick off Gr 4 tmr. If we can kick off the G5 before the application date, we'll go ahead to make the application on 18/8 (on line application deadline).

I've been quite busy after joining the new company. No time to shop for the discounted clothes and shoes for work yet, but I need to "invest" now.
BTW, anyone even seen Mammoth soft/stuffed toy recently? Jun's new favourite is Mammoth...

Hi BS,

I have enrolled my daughter for a 1:1 class in Parson's Music, two lessons per week from now on till the date of exam. She had 3 lessons so far. She just started Grade 3 last night. Anyways, I have signed up the exam for her already. Cannot get out now. I told her that this is the freest period of the year for her. It's good if she can pass the exam this time and can spare the time to do other things then. However, if she cannot make it, it doesn't matter. She can retake it in Feb 2010. That'll be just in time for her to enroll for her Grade 6 Percussion practical exam.

I have known that she has to do the theory exam for a long time. However, I didn't realise the urgency until her percussion teacher told me the enrollment schedule for the next grade exam. That's why I just 的起心乾 to find the theory lessons for her just a few weeks ago.
So, I will see how far she can go. Thanks very much for your information. Next time, I will plan well for my son.

Under the prevailing urgent conditions, I have no choice. We have to go to the teachers' place if no one wants to come to ours for lessons.
