Re: 基督徒的姊妹小產過後之"再戰江湖--湊仔篇" part 6
Talking about Internation schools, if I can afford CIS, Chinese International School, I don't mind to send Jacob there, very solid English and Mandarin training. Too bad, it is unaffordable.

Agree with Jen.
Both English and Chinese are of utmost importance nowadays in Hong Kong. Most international schools do not put much focus on Chinese. In fact, Chinese is not easy to learn, esp to write the Chinese words. Children can't learn good Chinese if they simply attend Chinese tuitions, say once or twice a week. In my opinion, it is beneficial for our children to have a solid language foundation so that their comprehensive skills, presentation abilities will be better.
To help a child to learn a language better, it is crucial to provide him/her with such an environment. Undoubtedly having a Philipino helper does help cos the child must have to communicate with her (although the intonation may not be that accurate) but at least the child can learn more vocabulary and the child dares to speak in English. In fact, the Eng listening skills of HK students are not bad at all but given limited opportunities to speak in English, their oral skills need improvement.

But learning Chinese and liking Chinese is also very very important. Unless you send them to the very very good international school that teaches English and Mandarin, otherwise, they may hate Chinese. I think someone who can't write good in Chinese can't survive now.
