How time flies, it's year end la.....2008 is coming soon....
i'm busy with both work and life on month ends....
hopefully next month should be fine for me....
or before Chinese New Year?
Please kindly advise if there is any chance, as you know, to learn Malays in Hong Kong.
My daughter is now 2 year 4 months old (I am from HK and my hubby is KL now) For some reason, we will only be back to KL 2.5 years later.
I hope that she can have some ideas on what Malays is before she enters any kindergarten in KL years later (afterall, at least, reduce the level of difficulties to get accustom to new life in KL)
If your daughter is going to start Kindergarten in KL, I don't think you need to worry about her not knowing Malay, as children only start learning proper Malay in primary school.

If she can speak English and/or Mandarin and/or Cantonese, that should be enough.

Unless, if your husband is Malaysian, you probably need to worry if she starts primary school in KL without knowing any Malay.
If I am you, I will be more worried about myself not knowing Malay. Chinese are "expected" to speak and understand some Malay in KL. People don't know if you are not Malaysian and you may face a lot of inconvenience (also depending on where you live and go)
I have a Taiwanese friend who is married to Malaysian. She cannot go anyway by herself because she can't speak any Malay.
Good luck!
p/s: for you to learn Malay, you can buy a Malay/English/Cantonese/Mandarin talking dictionary (from Kinokuniya or any big bookshops in KL)
I believe my daughter will attend kindgarden in KL for a year or two first since she will be at 5 at that time. Does it help??

I only started to learn some Malay when I was 7 and more when I was 9. The most important exams (have to pass Malay) are primary 6 (11 or 12 years old), secondary PMR, secondary SPM and pre-University STPM.
So, don't worry, your daughter will be able to catch up if she starts at the age of 5. Besides, it is easier to find tuition teachers (and cheaper too) in KL than in HK.
As for you, most important Malay you need to pick up is the name of those delicious "FOOD"!! :)
