i'm a new user of D40. always use auto mode. but when i take photo of my 1-yr old bb who always move around, i have difficult time catching her. many photos turn out out of focus, especially when i use the "no flash auto mode".
Pls help. how can i take FOCUS pic with a nice camera???
also, if i want to take pic of waterfall seeing, how can i adjust the exposure to be slower and get the silk water effect?
aprilk,
take photo of baby w/o using flash, you should :
1. increase surrounding lightings
(turn on all the lamp, light and even make use of desk lamp to increase the lighting condition.)
2. increase the iso value
3. use of lens with large aperture e.g. f1.8, f2.0
4. at daytime, put baby at the side of windows to make good use sunlight
for focusing, set the focus mode to AF-C for shooting continuous moving body.
for taking waterfall, better use a tripod and set the shutter speed to slower value e.g. 1 or more seconds. (but in daytime, it will be overexposed when using slow shutter speed, in that case, use a ND filter to reduce the light entering the lens will be more effective.)
deebrown,
Transcend is another good choice
you can buy one at competitive price at Mongkok Computer Centre (Shantung Street) or at Shamshuipo's Golden Computer Centre
I am not an expert, but I want to try to answer you.
The answer for all your questions is related to the shuffter speed. While taking photos for running/ moving child, you better use a shuffter speed of higher than 1/250". You can control the shuffter speed by using the S-mode.
I presume you just have the kit-lens. It would be very easy to have a 1/250" outdoor in sunny date. However, if that date is cloudy or when you take photos indoor, it is very difficult for the kit-lens to have such a high speed. You might have to increase the iso to get enought light for your picture.
To take picture of still water. You also need high shuffter speed. Same logic.
