My plan is that:
1) have a stable place to live (buy a flat)
2) buy a car and car park
3) save $ in hands (to employ a bun bun /yan yan after having kids)
4) earn more for further expenses
5) read more books about development of kids
6) have a stable and good relationship with my husband
I am not rich too. In fact, we struggled a lot before we decided to put my son in int'l school. But you are right that it became a big drive/motivation for us to work harder (and save harder). Since then we progressed well in our careers (also becos at that time we were in our 'golden age' of career). So, sometimes it is a 'egg and chicken' thing.
And, int'l school is just our choice becos we have to work late and don't have much time to do homework/tests/exams with our son. We'd rather spend the time playing with him. : ) But certainly I agree local school is a good path for kids. It really depend on your situation.
In fact, we broke our contract to buy a flat in 1997 (we forfeited HK$200,000) before we confirmed to have a baby! But now, I am 101% sure to say, no regret on that! Our son is the biggest gift we got from God.
Ume, hope you will have good news soon. I am sure you will be a good mother as you are so caring and well-planned.
