NO shopping facilities / mall in Sentosa ga.
The nearest shopping mall is Vivo City (HarbourFront MRT) just inland from Sentosa.
Gap, TRUs there, some food outlets, etc.

Hi BS,

It really depends on your needs. If you do not have a notebook yet, I would recommend you to buy a notebook rather than a netbook, which is quite limiting. However, if you have a notebook already, a netbook will add convenience to you in particular when you travel. It's lighter and more convenient.

The HP netbook offer is not attractive. It is very primitive. You may find similar grades in the market. It's not cheap enough.

Compare the Lenovo and Fuji models: -
1. Weight
Len is heavier and Fuji is lighter. If you use at home, this factor is not so critical
2. Memory card slots
Acc to the spec, no such slots in Len. If you want some convenience to read the memory cards of say, your cameras, Fuji will be more handy.
3. Disk memory
Len has just 250G and Fuji has 320G. Fuji wins again in this aspect.
4. Processing speed
more or less the same for the 2 brands
5. Origin
Len is made in China but the Fuji model concerned is Japan. Fuji wins.
6. Price
Len is about 4K but Fuji is over 6K (P.S. u have to pay $200 for the OS upgrade for Fuji). Fuji is 50% costier.

Overall, is Fuji worth the price difference then? This is very personal. But for myself, I do not expect a PC or notebook can meet my needs over 3 years. It's likely for me to get a replacement or find another newer one after 3 years. So, I may not invest too much on it. As such, I would opt for a Len.

Just a week ago, I learned that there was a staff offer on Thinkpad now. Some of colleagues say it is quite 抵. Not so sure if it has expired. I can help u to check tomorrow. Update u then.

Hi BS,

Forgot to comment on the Apple tim.

The first PC that I owned was an Apple IIe. Since then, I have never bought an Apple again. Actually, I like its stylish and coolness. Owing to my laziness, I do not want to learn another user interface after work. That's why I do not own any Apple now.

It's hard to compare the first three (Win) with the last one (Apple). It is analogical to compare an apple with an orange. This is a very subjective choice.

But if consider the $ discount without the complimentary iPod touch, not attractive enough wor...

agree with GN4 depends on your needs. I'm now using the netbook EeePC to go up here, brought in June 2008, price was around $3980. I took it when I travelled with Jun without Junpa, really handy.
I've a desktop at home, bought it 5-6years ago, almost time to change, will wait until next year when Jun in P1. Considering to buy a notebook instead of desktop, but of course will depends on the $$.

KL / GN4,

If GN4 cannot collect tonight then I can collect for her ga.

GN4,

Tks for all the info / views.
Let me go through more thoroughly first.

Big Pig already has a notebook at home, ~2y-old, he uses this for work, and piglet and I can only use it when the notebook can take a rest from work.

Prefer to buy something for myself (+piglet if he has time for online games !) ==> seems that netbook is more suitable.

IBM-staff doesn't seem to have all the sp bundles for Us, so in the end I guess I should settle for a Lenovo S10-2 or S12 plus bundle.

eg if S12 = $3792, plus package C = $438 (MS mouse, screen protector (?), DDR3 2GB ram, Kaspersky), plus upgrade to MS Windows 7 Pro Chi/Engl (orig XP Home) = $599, plus 2007 MS Office Enterprise (Chin/Eng) (orig = 30days trial MS Office 2007) = $399
Grand total = $5228.-

If S10-2 with same package and bundle = $4313.-

blue*,

PolyU offers same model at $5,680 only ($300 cheaper) but the CPU is a T4300 instead of T6500.

Dunno if there's great difference

GN4,

Fujitsu mini-notebook just $2,780.

Is this one good?

Asked my office's systems maint ppl, and their suggestion was, for either Lenovo S10-2 or S12 :

S12 = $3792, plus package B = $358 (MS mouse, screen protector (?), DDR2 2GB ram, Kaspersky), plus 2007 MS Office Enterprise (Chin) (orig = 30days trial MS Office 2007) = $399
Grand total = $4549.-

S10-2 with same package and bundle = $3634.

Just considering the smallest NetBooks, otherwise I will become more and more greedy ==> buy a super $$$ notebook !

Alternative is Samsung.
(KL, Teresa bought a Samsung for ~$3600 eventually, from Golden and not the Us.)

Still have time to look see in Broadway / Fortress.

BS,
Thanks very much for the books & coming out to meet me today! I should start teaching my son asap.

KL,
I didn't learn bassoon but judging from the outlook, I think it's one of the hardest to learn but cool cos there aren't many bassoonist in an orchestra. BTW, I went to spcc this morning to drop off my daughter's P1 application. Great campus. But no expectation, just give it a try! I heard from a friend today that Wong Yan Loong's daughter has left for SxS! I sent my son to HKOM Society in YMT last Sun! OMG, have to wait for him for 1.5hrs & he learnt "square 9"... looks like he has to learn this topic for the rest of the month! x%#*! Really have to take a good look at BS' OM book from Sgp & see if I can teach him myself!

JSM,

Really?!

I think the music teacher find Kv is quite strong (due to his big size) compare with others and can hold such a big instrument gwa.

What does SXS stand for? Actually there's a lot good choices besides SPCX

I know Leung Kam Chung's daughter is in P1 this year. I saw the picture of Leung and Fuk in intranet.

Regarding HKOM Society in YMT, do you mean HKMOS?

KL,
SxS : x = I. Looks like we are playing a word game! Yes, it is HKMOS that I am referring to. Is it better than HKMOA where A=Association where my son & yours went to last summer? My son's school has invited HKMOA to teach the kids on Sat mornings. I am afraid there is no continuity, so I prefer to go for HKMOS which is highly recommended to me by a friend of mine. Too bad they don't sell study material. Otherwise, I think I can teach my son as he is only in lower primary! Won't be too difficult, right?

Hi KL,

Sorry that I could not reply you earlier. Quite busy since my changing job.

Will you meet BS in the near future? If so, please pass the books to her. I will ask my hubby to take them from her then. Thanks very much.

Re the Fuji netbook available in HKPU offer, the battery can just last for 2.5 hours. Personally, I think it is too short for using outside. The Lenovo S10 or S12 are much better in this aspect. They can last for 4.5 hours.

Hi BS,

In my opinion, I would prefer not spending too much on Netbooks. May not worth the investment as their usage is not as versatile and flexible as normal notebooks. If your budget is around $5000, you may almost buy a notebook ga la..

The display of netbook is small, something like 10" or 12". I think it will be too straining for the eyes if used frequently at home.
