Dear all,
I guess, I will go for Lutheran Medical Center, which is at Brooklyn, and I just need about 15 min by driving..
They offer the salary by 16% increase for me.
I will work in Nursery for the Maternal & Baby Unit.
To teach the mom with new born for the postnatal care.
I wish I will be able to handle my coming job very well.
I went to resign this evening for my current job.
2 weeks notices.
I gave up all my vacations and hoilday time .. as I suppose to give 4 weeks notice.
I will start my new job at Nov 5.. for orientation.

Congratulations! It's a very meaningful job with such an attractive increase and short commuting time. Teaching new moms to take care of newborns is just like what you have done in here.

Socloudy, 我估我唔會同佢地bargain 人工, 我會立定決心走人. 做non profit 做得耐, 都係時候要睇下個世界有幾大. 不過我續緊個employment authorization 張證, 預計下個月收到, 一收到我會搵head hunter, 睇下自己值幾多都好.

其實有phd 做政府工真係冇"jet so", 就連我既graduate degree 都冇幫到我, 一入左政府, 就講time in grade, that's you have to be in a "grade" for at least 54 weeks before you can advance to the next grade... 好stupid ga. 好在我係ladder program, 年年升until I reach a certain grade and then I will be making decent money for the work I am doing, and pretty much double my starting salary.... otherwise, I wouldn't want to work for government ar. But then compare to private company, I can probably get more, but without the flexibility that I have now. For the benefits, it's not great, just ok. We have something similar 401K and the government match 5% if we put in 5%. But no maternity leave for the federal government though.... when I have Kaden, I had to take up all my leave and then was on leave without pay for about a month... :cry: Medical insurance is probably the worst I seen.... thank good my husband has better medical/dental insurance that covers the whole family, otherwise, if you want to get it from the federal government, it's costly and not good!!!

I mentioned about Babykingom to my Director of Nursing, my Maternal&Baby Unit manager, and also hand in your reference letter, then they asked... is this reference letter from one of those mom in your forum.. I said, "yes".. and I met them all.. My DON is so happy about it.. she said that she needs a chinese educator in their hospital, but she needs to hold a master of nursing (education on mother and baby). My next goal is.. go back to study next year.

To start a new job.. I have headache since last night.. under stress.. (may be.. I think too much)
Although the salary is higher, but medication needs co-pay, not 100% coverage.. what a pity.

It is true that the worker in City can have 4-6 months maternity leave. It depends how much sick and vacation you have. But you don't have much sick vacation time, the government will pay you maximum 12 weeks, but you need to work for the government for certain period of time after you return your job. My best friend is pregnant now, she plans to have six months maternity leave. The work in City, to me, is not hard. I can leave the office at 5:00pm sharp. I arrive at my home at about 5:30pm. I still have plenty of time to do the homework with my kids.

Congratulations Nilli Mom. I remembered when I changed the position or you could say to have a promotion, I got stripe infection after finished interview and all the test. I understand how nervous you were at that time. Anyway, I am happy to hear that you like the new job.

Hi, nice to see you here. I heard that there is a new preschool in Sunset area. It is located at Noriega and 34th Ave. It is a new school. I know the waiting list is long now. My friend's daughter is 18 months and has already applied for this preschool. It is better for you to go there to have a visit. I don't know when it starts. My friend said it will be open in November. My friend went to The Ark to take application form. But she requested to go the new one in Noriega. If you want to know more, I can ask my friend to take one form to you.

I am happy to find the same age friend and also new in US.

Nillie, changing job is not easy, especially when you are okay with the current one. But, less commuting time and increased salary are very important thing for a working mom. So, you can have more time with Amanda and Gabriel which money can't buy.

nic977, Sue, federal job is not better than city or state job. I have friends in both federal and city and both of them are happy with their benefits. The one in federal is happy on her medical (???) and her pension plan. The one in city is happy for her flexibility and maternity leave. Well, since I'm not a citizen yet, I can only go for city now. To me, money and flexibility are both important (too greedy

). I recently received quite a bit of invitation for application from city dept but most of them are for clerk or typist. Well, the pay of these jobs are fine (at least better than my current one) but I really want to find something more meaningful. My hubby told me that I should go for these lower level first and look for transfer or advancement later.

Sue, if it is not too troublesome, please help to ask your friend to get an application form for me. Or, let me know the phone # or address so that I can contact the school. My son is now 19 months old and I think that I should start hunting pre-school for him as the waiting lists for most of them are so long. Thanks in advance.

Most of the big hospital have respiratory dept. If that hospital has ventilation unit which pt use vent. then they will have respiratory therapist and the RN like (med-surg +vent experience).
