Re: Any mom living in USA now - Part IV

Natmama,
that 1st day care is a private day care, called "Victory acedemic school"..
I really upset about that.. as my fat bear bear husby believes that that one (the first one) will take good care of Amanda because Matthew (Amanda's younger cousin) is taking care by them since he was 1 months old.. now he is 2 years old.. so.. but.. it really not the same story on amanda..
they locked Amanda in the High chair no matter anytime we went to pick up Amanda.. at 8am..she was in High chair.. at the 4th day we told them we will be there at 3pm.. but we went there at about 1pm.. she still inside the high chair.. then.. I told my fat bear how upset I was.. and he got frustating as well .. as we believe that they physically abuse Amanda because she is a very active baby...
Glad that the night mare is gone!
Now, she learns new word everyday.. but, one thing to mention, she really not good in cantonese anymore (althought, she has never been good in Cantonese).. she can make all "make sense" sentence in English, but none in Cantonese.. Me and fat bear are not going to focus her to learn Cantonese at all, as long as we speak Cantonese to her at home.. and she understands what we are saying.. that is fine.. we will send her to chinese school once she is about 5-6 years old when she has a good base in English for schooling..
About potty training.. click my signature below, find the one wrote.. Potty training... I hope those hints will give you some help!
SY_mom,
Does Sean have his Flu shot? Amanda was sicked for a whole week.. with very bad nasal congestion and coughing..like a really flu.. (her pedi blamed me that I did not let her to have her flu shot earlier this October and I did not give her the shot last year)... *sigh* finally, she recovered and goes back to day care.. hee hee.. she learns the Jingle bell song la.. how is Sean..? Amanda is day time potty trained by day care la.. I am glad about it.. just only night time left.. but she needs a bottle before bed.. I did take off her diaper at night and she took 4 times to go to bathroom as she afraid of wetting her bed, poor Amanda, she was falling a sleep whole day on that morning.. then I give up.. I believe that she needs some more time..
Next week will be thanks giving.. I need to work 3 days in a row at Nov 23, 24, 25.. hee hee.. I will have overtime pay this time.. ha ha.. but then I can't celerbrate it with Zic... sad sad..
take care.. all moms to be... Mrs. Yip and Green tree ^o^

Re: Any mom living in USA now - Part IV

Mrsyip,

Yes, I'm really thinking of starting natalie in preschool for half a day 3 days when she turns 2. It gives me some alone time. I think it's good for Jada to go to daycare since your little one will arrive soon. It will be hard for you to care for both for the entire day.

Nillie,

It will be hard for our kids to speak cantonese very well growing up in america. I think the same as you, as long as she can understand what i'm trying to tell her, then that's good. We are some after school chinese programs in the area, maybe I will need to send natalie there as well to learn how to write and read in chinese.

Re: Any mom living in USA now - Part IV

Nillie,
Again, thanks for inviting us for your gathering. So much good food for us and so many toys for Joshua. Remember we talked about potty training, I’ve tried with Joshua since this Monday. But he didn’t like it. Even though I knew he was poop poop, he just stopped doing it once I took off his diaper. After 4 days, he finally did it today. I’m so happy for him! To celebrate this, my husband and I are going to buy him a new, comfortable potty tomorrow. :-P

Regarding the Hong Kong gathering, I don’t think we can join you guys this time as my 99 already plan a lot of activities for our weekend. Sorry about that.

SoCloudy,
Nice to meet you finally. You know, Corey is such a good boy. So behave and smile a lot! Good for you! Yeah, the straw is good thing. I need to get some more too!

Zic,
How’s Ryan doing? Hopefully, we can meet him next time.

Re: Any mom living in USA now - Part IV

Dorisbee,

Natmama,
我都係咁話!! 要待Amanda入學(Grade1)就送Amanda去CHinese school學自已自中文名!

New york mom,
間 day care有幾間branch, 2間 in statn island.. 叫 "smiles R us"

Re: Any mom living in USA now - Part IV

Nillie,

i think Amanda most likely got cold instead of flu. as u know, flu usually comes with high fever at the very beginning. Sean got mild cold once in a while, but it's not that bad for him as he grows up. Usually he'll recover by himself within a week (we didn't even give him medicine except before going to bed at night). With a mild cold, we usually just let him go to school. the school sickness policy (pretty standard) allows the kids go to school except that they're having a fever of 100F and over.

for the flu shot, he took the first dose (there're supposed to be 2 shots but they were out of stock and we didn't really care) last year at his 18 month check-up, as recommended by the pedi. for 6 to 23 mo olds. initially i didn't really want him to take it as it's still not completely mercury-free (pedi said it still contains traceable amount of mercury but safe and not related to autism). but finally my hubby decided to let him take it as the risk of being hospitalization from serious flu for that age is high. however, after he took the shot, i didn't feel comfortable for about a month although he's completely fine. Until a month later, he could speak in simple sentences (and now he can tell stories in really long complex sentences), i felt the shot should be ok.

sean's 2 1/2 yr old check-up is coming up next week. now i still a bit hesitate if i should let him take the flu shot if the pedi recommends it and it's available. initially the pedi told me that now the shot is mercury-free. however, i just found out that most offices will reserve the mercury-free versions for the infants (6 to 23m) and the pregnant women. so, i'm not sure if he'll be having the mercury-free flu shot. if he's not going to school, i may just bypass it this time.

also, as u know, the flu vaccines only prevent the major 3 kinds of flu viruses and can't prevent the cold at all. and usually most kids have cold instead of flu most of the time.

so, have you taken yr pedi's recommendation to let Amanda take the flu shot this year as she's going to day care now?

99 just told me that she heard from the news that 2 kids in Japan died after taking the flu shots. anyone have heard abt this??

Re: Any mom living in USA now - Part IV

Natmama & Nillie,

thanks for yr encouragement to me for applying the job at cisco. however, i'm still too lazy to sumbit my resume. maybe i'll do it next week or after thanksgiving if it's still open.

interestingly, there's a consulting company (help the high-tech companys for staffing, etc.) called me, asked if i formerly worked for Hp, and said their client asked him to give me a call to see if i'm interested in a job. when the first time he called, i was on my way out to pick up sean, so i finished the conversation quickly. when he asked me when he should expect my call back, i said "i don't know ... i hv a 2-yr-old. if not today, by tomorrow. ...." he called again yesterday and kinda give me a phone interview. i felt i've been rusty doing interview now, and i might sound not very professional (more than a mom).
then, when i realized his client works for Google. i felt "wow ... good company to work for ... with new day-care, flexibility, etc. meanwhile, it might be quite demanding since most people there seem very technical". so i still hesitate if i should fight for it or not. i'm not sure if i can handle a demanding full-time job and taking care of the family and my boy at the same time.
since that job was referred by someone who knows me (but can't find out who's that, maybe my ex-coworker, boss, or contractor who worked with me), i might disappoint him if i don't even fight for an interview.

Re: Any mom living in USA now - Part IV

SY_mom,
really depend on you, as Sean goes to school now, if he adapts well, you can even let him go on full day, as Amanda goes on her full day, actually, she eats more than at home, and behaves much better. (like you said... now Amanda will push the chair close to table when she left some times). Everyone said, they can see... Amanda gains weight and height very well.. that also she is adapting very well.
You should try to let Sean to go full day.. after 1-2 weeks, then you will know, if Sean goes on full day, actually, you are much easy to deal with house work and others.
Then, hire a part time home helper to clean the house and prepare dinner.
As Sean goes on Full day..
and your work comes with day care as well.. so
What do you worry about?
Come on, if you don't try, you will never know.
you have to make the first step every time to see what you have made a different!
100% support!

Re: Any mom living in USA now - Part IV

Sy-Mom,

There is a google office in Irvine and my friend said it's a great company to work for. Especially now that they just went public for a short time, the stock option will be very attractive I had a similar experience as you, a recruiter called me after I became a full-time mom and had couple positions she thought was suitable. And my feedback was pretty much the same as you...not very rushed    If Sean is really enjoying school, it's wise to let him go full time so you can take a break too. Personally, I think I will stay home for some time even after natalie goes to preschool...cuz that will really be a good time for me to be totally free. If possible, you can always try doing part time first. Recently, I've been getting more involved in my hubby's business and it brings back some professionalism in me. I actually feel pretty good doing some work and getting a tiny paycheck...hehehe. By the way, natalie just got her flu shot (1/2 dose) about 3 weeks ago, no big side-effects (touchwood). I'll bring her back for the 2nd 1/2 dose when we get back from the cruise.

Re: Any mom living in USA now - Part IV

Re: Any mom living in USA now - Part IV

Nillie & Natmama,

Finally we had sean to take the flu shot this morning when he went for his 2 1/2 yr check-up. My friend’s kid (3 yrs old now) started preschool last year and didn’t hv flu shot; eventually he ended up with bronchitis and pneumonia. However, before my friend told me about it, I didn’t even know although we see each other pretty often. So I just thought about what if sean’s classmate had a similar case … and at the beginning his/her parents and teachers didn’t even know …
Also, seems like lots of my friends got sick too although mostly they had cold.

The flu shot sean had is FluZone which is mercury-free for 6m to 35m, so my hubby decided to let him take it. i've also double check with the manufacturer's web site, there's NO mercury in any stage of the manufacturing process at all, so it should be very safe.
Last year, only the flu shots with traceable amount of mercury are available. Sean had taken it anyway and so far so good (thanks god).

This morning I was a bit worried that sean might be afraid of seeing the doctor, coz now he understand why people need to see doctor. I just had a cold with coughing and he told me “mommy, u’re sick. U need to see the doctor la! Need to take medicine la!” surprisingly he’s not scared at all at the doctor’s office and played with the doctor. However, he felt the pain of the 2 shots and said “Ah!” for each one of the shot but didn’t cried at all.

Re: Any mom living in USA now - Part IV

For moms who considers giving flu shots for your kids:

Ask for FluZone (from Aventis-Sanofi Pasteur) which is free of mercury/preservative. Pediatric dose is available for 6m to 35m and adult dose is available for 3 yrs and older.

Next available best choice is Fluvirin (Chiron’s product) which is also free of preservative although it still contains traceable amount of mercury but far less than the more common flu shots.

Re: Any mom living in USA now - Part IV

Hi Mrs. Yip,
Yup, I'm a working mom ah. It isn't easy to go back to work after the sit moon. However, knowing my parents can take good care of Corey, I don't have much to worry. He stays at my parents house for weekdays and nights due to the cold weather. We take him home once a week. Two weeks ago, my hubby and I took the baby back home and the baby got sick the next day... It's really heartbreaking to see him not feeling well and lost the appetite :-( :-( Anyway, I miss Corey a lot and I have lots of Corey's picture in my office.
It's very sweet of your hubby and your bb stood in the door and wait for you after school.

socloudy,

Thanks! Are you a working mom? It is not easy go back to work after the "sit moon". Did you always miss corey when you work in the beginning? I am a stay home mom. The first time I left my bb a few hours when I went back to school ( only evening class and forgot 2 or 3 nights ) I already miss my bb very much! When I came home every night, my hubby and my bb stood in the door and welcome me. I felt very joyful!

Re: Any mom living in USA now - Part IV

Muimui313,

I think we should not expect too much about our kids speaking fluent cantonese ga la As long as they understand what we say, then we should be thankful Natalie can count numbers in cantonese and english, does that mean she speaks multiple languages...hahaha...

Hadrian,

Welcome to our chat I'm a full-time mom and my daughter, Natalie, is 16 months. We live in southern california. Feel free to post any questions here, we have many many experienced moms :-P :-P :-P
