I see. I have been in the US since 1994. Long time luuu... I think I like the life in the US better than HK's. Maybe I get used to stay in the State after all these years.
申請了多久? Well, I came to the US as students (student visa), then work here (work visa), then got married. So, I did not apply for US immigration in the very beginning. I was just going with the flow since I like the life here as I have been living here for quite a while.
If you don't have insurance and come to the US 生仔, I heard it's ranging from US$10000 to $50000+ depends which state, which hospital, and if you have any complication (or c-section, epidual etc). There're those center in CA for foreign people to come in their last few month of pregnancy to wait and give birth in the US, then get the baby's passport and other document done, and then back to their home country (seems that more Taiwanese people do that). They have those 生仔 package. I think there should be a lot of people able to afford that anyway. They want to give their kids another option.
My son is 10 months old now. I think 移民生活 not necessarily for everyone. Some enjoy it, some don't. It depends on the individual. :) Also for kids too... if the kid does not born in that country and grow up there (at a relatively "younger" age). I was international students and I saw some other international students got really home-sick and didn't adapt to the life in the US. I think they were miserable and they may better off just stay in their home countries. Sometimes it could be the parents' dream, not the kids'. So you may want to see what your kid wants (if he/she is old enough) later. But it's nice to have another option line up for them anyway. :) It's good to provide choices.
SF should be much better compare to other states (those "red neck" states) because SF is so diverse and has a high population of immigrants (esp Asians). Discrimination will happen anyway... but it depends on the individual. Like after 911, a lot of American discrimiate against mid-eastern looking people and muslim folks...
Hopefully, this VT tragedy won't raise riots or too much negative feeling against Asians...
hai ah.. 仔黎架.. haha.. though some of the picture, people think he looks like a girl. But if you see him in real, then you can tell he has a "boy look". :) I live in Mountain View... about 45 miles south of San Fran. (maybe 45-60 min drive from SF). All my relatives in HK ah. I just live here with my husband and my baby. My husband's family not in the US neither.
