I'm OZ citizen since 1986. Very very recently, Australia has changed the Immigration policy from 2 in 5 yr critieria to somethin' like 5 years. You better check it out!
FOr your information, the legislative changes have been passed by the parliament on 01/03/07. The changes is likely to commence on 01/07/07. This means that the residency requirement will change as follows:
The new residence requirements for Australian citizenship will mean that applicants will need:
*four (4) years lawful residence in Australia immediately prior to making an application for Australian citizenship with at least 12 months as a permanent resident, and
*absences from Australia of no more than 12 months in total in the four (4) years prior to application, and no more than three (3) months in the 12 month permanent residency period prior to application.
Check out the immigration/citizenship site for more info:

Also citizenship procedures will also change with a requirement of a 'test' ! A lot of people are against it in the community. But this is only in the pipeline, nothing has been set in concrete yet. But I know that it wont be too long when it is imposed.
Is great to know you got the time to look at the link i posted. But you should know that it is only general info i have posted . Anyone who wants information in detail should contact Department of Immigration and Citizenship. I am only giving suggestions NOT advises ! A migration agent does that.
If i have to put the whole legislation changes in detail on this forum - there wont be enough space !!
Plus i guess you should know this better coz you need to get your citizenship soon.
