mcada said you got a question about storing the digital photos, right?!
my understand is your pc got no CD-R device and thus you currently only storing your photos in harddisk. That's definitely risky. There is too many possible virus out there in the internet and also possible physical damage to your harddisk in the long run. As such, you really need to consider storing your photos in other media such as CDR or DVDR.
To cope with that, i also backup the all the photos and data by CDR from time to time to prevent loss of photos/data in case my harddisk got any problem.
About the lifetime of CDR, i also heard that the life span is only 1-2 yrs time from some sort of internet research. However, my opinion is currently CDR is still the most economic method to backup photo/data. A CDR machine will only cost you few hundred dollars and a CDR is just around $2-$3 dollars. You may also consider a DVDR but that will be much more expensive for the DVDR write as well as the DVD disk. The advantage is each DVD disk can store much more photos/data than a CDR. And if the life span stuff about CDR is true, then i think it also apply to DVDR. So, basically they should have the same life span.
Alternatively, you may buy an additional external harddisk to backup the photos. The additional harddisk can link with your PC by a USB cable and you may just connect it when you want to backup the photos. After the backup, you may unconnect the external harddisk with the PC so as to avoid any possible virus attack. You also need to store the this external harddisk in a safe place to avoid breaking up with Bobo. :-P :-P :-P The cost of this will depend on the harddisk size you want, should be around $1k.
