Re: Any mom living in USA now - Part III

little fat man,
regarding the problem of getting sick at school - probaby not much difference at 2 or 3.
i hv a neighbour whose boy is 3 yr old. he never got sick before going to preschool at 3. since he started preschool, he got sick right away and then once in a while (his mom said abt once a month).
i just worry that serious accidents might happen (especially for boys, as they're naughtier). i heard that some of my friends' boys got accidents in school (usually body injuries and some required operations). sean is easy to hv accidents, cos he always like to climb up to the topest and always forget abt the "dangerous" concept.

meeemeee,
i only found one preschool (2 campuses in Milpitas) which is close to us and take 2-yr-old w/out potty-trained. however, i don't like it that much.
i've thought abt Sunnyvale Christian school. but when i looked at their cirricumum for 2-yr-old class (sean already know abt 80% of it), i'm afraid that it might not be interesting enough to him. maybe i'm too demanding ... but he really likes challenging.

natmama,
i've thought abt hiring a f/t nanny and send sean to preschool at 3 instead of 2. however, we've been unlucky enough to hv a good one so far. we had a very good p/t nanny to work for us for a few weeks only (then she made up an excuse to quit). i've even called her up and almost begged her to come back, but she implied that sean is kinda too smart for her to take care of, so again she made up an excuse not coming back to work for us.

junw,
for the preschools in bay area, usually the p/t programs available from M,W,F (full day), T, Th (full day), or M thru F (1/2 day, usually in the mornings, but afternoon programs also available at some schools).
for the p/t program, i would consider the 1/2 days programs during the weekdays; in this case, i could hire a p/t helper to come in our place in the afternoons, so that i can go to work full time.

whalebb,
i haven't shopped for too many clothes in HK, as we seldom go out as we didn't live in the city. every day we just went down to the beach w/ sean and sometimes went to the playground in the hotel next to us.
as we didn't live in the city, the air pollution was not that bad. so thanks God that we all didn't get sick there. however instead, sean was sick abt a couple weeks after we came back from HK. sometimes he got some coughing at night, i'm not sure if that's from cold/flu or allergy cos sometimes he's fine in 2-3 days.

Re: Any mom living in USA now - Part III

Dear all:
I am still waiting arrhhhhh!!!! I just went for check up yesterday and the doc. said everything is fine and the baby is over 7lbs now, he is not worried since I didn't reach my due date yet, the baby is doing fine, heart beat is normal, lungs develop good and anmio fluid is enough and for now I can wait until my due date and he said he can either induce me on Sat. or Mon. (the doc. takes 6/20 as my due date) But I am so exhausted last night though because my hubby keeps on bugging me he were keep on saying why the bb hasn't come out yet, oh, she is getting too big now...this and that... I feel a lot of pressure... so stressful... hey there is nothing I can do ma... besides, the baby is not overdue yet... he is just too desperate to see his little girl.... I really want to him and finally I told him to shut up and leave me alone.

Whalebb:
I got your pic. you look great with the two girls, they both are so adorable, Bereneice looks more like you and Verneice looks cute.

LA moms,
I got you guys' gathering pic. you all look great, you guys sure have a lot of fun and the "dim sum" looks really yummy!

Zic,
Little Kurt already rolling? He sure growing very fast, I remembered my son didn't roll until he was almost 3 mos old, you better watch him more carefully and once they know how to roll, you can't leave him in your bed by himself.

Re: Any mom living in USA now - Part III

whalebb,

that's great that your husband is coming to US soon. I just saw your pictures, and you look so great and fit ar. I wishes I can lost some weight, hope that it is not too late to start ar.

I might send my twins to part time morning classes at age 3. How much does it cost for the part time program in your area?

My twins were crying like 好似鬼叫咁 at the kitchen door when I was cooking, I understand that it is so annoying. I just ignore them, and eventually they get used to it, and start playing after awhile.

Re: Any mom living in USA now - Part III

Junw,

Thank you for sharing the booster info. I purchased the same one as you Add Oil on your diet...we support you ga ...cos I need support too

Little Fat Man,

Big-Matt is right...there's no need for shoes yet...but they are just too cute to pass up. I think becuz Natalie is a girl...I try to dress her up alot. I bought her a bathing suit from Nordstrom also...hope to take her swimming :-P :-P :-P I agreed with Whalebb, maybe not a good idea to play video games in front of Mini-Matt so soon. How about joining some playgroups...since he was doing very well with Natalie around

Sy-Mom,

I agree it's hard to fine a pt nanny. We've tried looking for one so my husband and I can have some time alone...unfortunatle most people want to do more hours I don't like leaving Natalie at my parents house becuz they care for her with the traditional chinese way...kind of dirty

Nillie,

I haven't heard from Babygigi yet:cry:

Natmama, little fat man,
I brought the boosters because it was so frustrated when there are not enough high chair at the resturant, or the high chairs in the resturant are very dirty.

We haven't really use the boosters for feeding yet, my twins just treats them as new toys, they are very busy opening and closing the back.

Re: Any mom living in USA now - Part III

ONE WORD FOR TODAY--->HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT

whalebb....
Fat bear bear hubby is a very calm person, however, some times, he is just too easy to do something for his relatives (no matter how many times they cheated him before hand..).. *sigh*...
For me.. I spend an early morning in BK.. as the DSL and speed of the BK web server is very fast... solve all problem in Parenting club for other moms in my forum.. then when Amanda wakes up.. she is the only I care about..
play with her, sing with her, also wash clothes, clean the floor, wash her toys and floor mat once a week, and all other house work.. some times, I went to Zic's home and stay with her.. be her pal.. ^o^
This period, just went for job interview, but every single one.. after they know that I don't have a green card, no response afterward... Kind of MEAN... that is my feeling..
See... tomolo and Thursday, another 2 job interviews in hospitals.. see how it goes..

Dear everyone... ^o^
I received my 1-485 change status letter this morning.. for green card interview at August 25 this year.. FINALLY... ^o^ Hurray!!!!
Finally, finally, finally--> it's my turn..

Muimui313,
Fat bear bear hubby asked.. last time, you went to the local office to ask about your status.. did they give you the green card yet???

Junw, Natmama, Little fat man,
About the concern of dinning out.. We bought the Fisher price plastic portable high chair... which is from babiesrus.. about $19.99.... with coupon (we paid $15).... since Amanda was about 7 months old, we use it every time when we go out even that 2 times we went back to hk.. it has 3 height to choose for, and 3 choices (from tummy) for you to buckle the table.. with 3 hassel seat belt... it comes with a cover and a dish washer safety table as well.. ^o^

Re: Any mom living in USA now - Part III

little fat man,

maybe u can try to drop him off at the church nursery. usually it's abt 1 to 1 1/2 hrs only, i'm sure he'll enjoy if he gets used to it. also, it's free.
at our church nursery, the sickness policy is quite strict so usually there're no sick kids there.

nillie,

bb had a fever again (102.5 F) again last night, after his fever has gone for a couple days. again, there're no other symptoms except that his eyes was a bit watery last night (but today they're fine). i just keep monitoring his temperature and giving him Tylenol. i'll bring him to the doctor tomorrow or Thursday if necessary. we saw the doctor last Wed and he's checked for common infections and had urine test for him. however, his conclusion was viral. if we're seeing the doctor next time, probably he'll hv blood test for him. hopefully no need to him to go to ER or hospital for check-up. last Wed the doc. almost asked us to go to the hospital as he resisted to pee in the doc office for almost 3 hrs.

whalebb,

how old is yr older daughter? is she 3 yrs old or less than that? has she been potty-trained yet? so, how do u pick a preschool for her? what's most important for u?

natmama,

actually i realized it's hard to find a good nanny (no matter it's f/t or p/t, live-in or non-live-in). p/t might be even a little harder.
i realized a lot of nannies like to feed the babies with TV, so that they're more relaxed!
when i interviewed them, i always asked what they usually do with the babies when they're not eating or napping.

Re: Any mom living in USA now - Part III

nillie,

thanks for remember my friend. when she had the ultra-sound, it's confirmed that there's no NTD. thanks God! however, there're other potential problems which caused the AFP number to be so high. so, she had the amino test and waiting for the result in a couple week.

Re: Any mom living in USA now - Part III

Nillie-mami,

Congratulation ah!!! Soon u will not be troubled by the query of whether u have green card or not in the job interview!!! One thing: do the interviewers ask u how much salary u want/ do they offer u an amount?

Thank you for reminding me that my dog dog has hair on her paws.... maybe I should consider buying some ink to get her hand-print then ( I really want to get it because it's so cute!)

Then for my coming bb, how young can I already get her hand and foot print with clay?

cutie-mom,
Your husband is so eager to see the little girl! Then have u felt anything yet?

Marble,
I want to meet u too, pity that I missed the chance!!! I always think that your whole family is here in US.... So your mom is flying from HK to visit the 2 brothers? What airline was she flying and did she need to apply for US traveling visa? I will help my parents to apply theirs end of this month, but forgot whether it's better to go to the embassy with the air ticket....

whalebb,
"我今日好free不用"秋"女...一陣跳舞先"
So gooooood to get rib of them for ONE day! Where and what u dance? I learnt some simple dance-like movement in my yoga class and kind of like to do it at home too!

LA mom,
I have no problem for Sat gathering.... so we will wait for babygigi to call us out la! What will u do on Father's Day? We will celebrate it in traditional way -- go to have dim sum la

Re: Any mom living in USA now - Part III

Junw,

You're so right...the highchair/booster at the restaurant are very very dirty. We bought Natalie her first booster chair when she was 4 months. That one has a thicker cushion and reclines to support her back. Once she was able to sit up without support, then we switched to the Safety1st brand and brought the old one to my parents' house. Have you seen the boppy seat covers That works very well for shopping carts and some restaurant high chairs. If the restaurant has the new style highchair (the wood kind), then we just bring the boppy seat cover to put on top. It's easier than hauling the booster chair

Sy-Mom,

That's a great idea to ask what the nanny does with the baby other than feeding and napping. Sometimes I'm also guity of letting Natalie play by herself or watch TV. Especially when I want to go online or watch chinese video tapes That's why I think the ultimate choice is to wait until the baby is 3 and send them to preschool...at least they are learning something Has Sean gotten his "rose rashes" yet?

Whalebb,

Do you mean "West Coast Buffet"...the one on Azusa That's fine with me. Very happy to know your hubby will be coming soon

Shiba-Inu,

We will be going to vegas on Friday to celebrate Father's Day. Natalie has a fever now and I'm afraid she is getting the roseola rash...even so...we won't change our plans...just probably stay in the hotel when it's hot outside

Re: Any mom living in USA now - Part III

natmama,

i think it's ok for bbs to watch TV as long as it's not too much.
sean has never got the "rose rashes" yet. at the very beginning, i also suspected that he might be getting that because of the fever. but now i'm still not sure abt it. if it's really "rose rashes", i heard that it's not that bad and the kid won't feel too uncomfortable.
my hubby's aunt said that he might be getting measles. but he really got the first measles/mump shot at 1-yr check-up (next shot due at 4-yr). it doesn't look like that as well so far. sigh ... i don't know ... let's see what happens.

muimui313,

wow ... u did a great job raising little Alex!

yes, u're right ... it's so amazing that how much babies grow in the first year (especially during the first 6 months provided that they don't get any major diseases). that's why they called it "growth spurt".
for the first year, our boy's height also grow so quick. at a time, he was like growing abt 1 1/2 inches per month. but then he only grew like 1 inch in 2 to 3 months. then grow 1 to 1 1/2 inches per month again.

since our boy was sick twice in the first 6 months (chicken pox at 3m and major flu w/ bad coughing at 5m), it's hard for him to catch up his weight later. his weight dropped from 75% to 25% (from birth to 6m check-up). so, as long as the baby doesn't get sick in the first 6 months, s/he should be in pretty good shape.

Re: Any mom living in USA now - Part III

ALL moms,

Questions:

1. Any of u remember whether you need to present the air-tickets to the US embassy in HK when u apply for a traveling visa?

2. My parents want to ride on the business class (or anything more comfortable then the economy class) when they come to US to visit me, I checked the price with some travel agent webpages, the cheapest one cost HK$16xxx per ticket. Any comment? I once heard someone saying that u can buy "mileage" from the airline and upgrade the economy ticket, anyone know???

Thank you!

Re: Any mom living in USA now - Part III

SY-Mom,
Thanks god that she is fine.. I cross my fingers with all the best wishes on her examination this time.

Shiba_Inu,
They do ask me about it.. but none of them pays the rate I asked for.. as every one told me, I suppose to receive about USD$40/hour, but most of them offer me about USD$28-30/hour only.

About the clay, you can do it anytime, however, better do it after 6-8 weeks as you can easy to keep her tiny little fingers open as long as you want. If you do it right after birth.. certainly, that is the best memorial clay but then, she may hold her hand and fingers together.
hee hee.. then do the ink one for you lovely dog dog, easy to clean afterward!!!

Muimui313, shiba_inu,
yeah yeah... I wish I wish.. everything will go fine.. ^o^

By the way.. what else I need to prepare for the interview..???
beside I have my birth certificate, Amanda's certificate.. Fat bear's citizenship letter, my SSC, my EAD, my passport with the I-94 paper, the tax return from 2002-2004, 2 months pay roll, associate bank account, insurance, and our house..
what else??
