Hi Hi, this is Jennifer. Nice to meet you. I am also in vancouver wor, but I live in richmond, near alderbridge. Do you live in richmond? My son is now 9 months. Msg me ar, maybe we can hang out sometimes with our babies.
Hey, did u buy a car seat for your son? I am searching for one, but have no idea which one is suitable. Do you know if evenflo titan 5 is good?
The first convertible car seat we got for our son when he was 6 months old was the Evenflo Victory V, which is one model above the Titan V,with reclining feature. It wasn't a good one at all and our son didn't find it comfortable to fall asleep in when we went for long drive to visit grandparents.
Then we went and buy a 2nd convertible car seat for our 2nd car. It was Cosco Alpha Omega and what a difference it was! Cost the same as the Titan V but much better! Our son was much happier in this car seat and sleeps like an angel when he is tired, no more crying and screaming... which makes our drive much easier. Has better padding and cushioning for the baby. Now that he is 20 months old, he still enjoys his car ride in the Cosco car seat. Highly Recommended!
May I ask you one question on giving birth?
Are there any advantages of having a child in HK, comparing to giving birth in Canada? Our son was born in Toronto and we are moving to HK in SEPT. We planned to have one more baby and were thinking whether or not to go back to Canada to give birth... And just like you, we are also having a hard time in deciding which pre-school & kindergarten to apply... Thanks!
Gab
just being nosy... why going back to HK? we left HK in 2002 as the economy is so low we hardly get any job over there (with old age)..
besides, most parents wish to give birth here in order to enjoy the benefit (free medication). In HK, if you give birth in Private hospital might costs you around HK$20-30K depends on the package.
unless you are not planning to move back here, otherwise, the kids will find it diff to catch up if he's studying in HK (public school). Unless you put him to those international school with have similar system like here... but $$$$$
Hi doggie: Which city are you living in? I hope you and your family are enjoying the new life in Canada!
I've been living in Toronto for almost 20 yrs and enjoyed what this great country has to offer. We are expanding our business in HK & Canada and it's easier to be based in HK. We'll definitely send our son to Int'l School there (hopefully at least one will accept him...), preferrably one that adapts the IB curriculum. We really want our son to have a wide exposure to different cultures and also master his spoken and written Mandarin/Chinese language. We are really fed up with the school violence, gang fights and gun problems that happens all the time in the local school system and neighbourhood...
The good daycares / pre-school (using the Montessori system) here aren't cheap either, about CDN$750 per month, which is similar to what they charge in HK's Int'l Kindergarten & Primary Schools. Plus my husband loves HK and the Chinese culture. However, there is always a possibility for me to return to Toronto to give birth if God gives us another child!
Hi Gab, I lived in Markham.. so which school you are sending your son to? HK islands or kowloon side.. right now they have lots of disputes on the Int'l school (the one that got subsidize from government) thus the school fee will be more or less = what you are paying now in Canada... but for others that has no subsidize.. the fee are much higher.
just being nosy.. what kind of business you are running in HK? most of the light industries move to china... and HK is mainly as the trading place (buying and selling office)..
so both me & my husband does not have job anymore and then decide to come.... :-(
anyway wish you good luck and success in HK :-P
Gab,
- Hi, sorry that I reply you late because my baby was sick. He got roseola! God, he had fever for few days and then suddenly, red spots covered all over his face and body.
- Anyways, thanks for your comments on the car seat. Unluckily, I bought the Titan V before looking at your comment. Same as your child's situation, my son feel really uncomfortable with this car seat because he cannot sleep in it. I will refund it tomorrow !!! :-x
- As for giving birth in HK, it really depends......
I delivered my son in private hospital St. Theresa. All I know is that giving birth in HK cost much much more than in Canada. I pay $45000 HK for hospitalization (10 days) because I had a minor wound infection. And then $500/ visit to the OB doctor, total around 15 visits from 2 months of pregnancy till recovered.
- After the baby was born, I have to apply Canadian citizenship for him. It was the most stupid part because he was born in HK and so, he has no benefits in Canada at all.
- Troubles: Because I move to HK recently and I don't have a garantor that I know for at least 2 years, the consulate staff will ask you lots of questions. You have to pay more $, do more paper work and take a vow at the office. At last, it takes me 1 month before I get the passport. And 6 months before I get the actual citizenship card, because all documents in HK have to send back to Canada for approval. It is just a waste of time!!!!!
- When I came back to Canada, I have to apply medical and CCTB for my son. Because he wasn't born in Canada, he has to wait for 3 months and during these time, I have to buy insurance for him. As for CCTB, the staff will call you and ask you lots of question ( AGAIN, it's just because he wasn't born in Canada) If I have a choice, I wouldn't give birth in HK because 1) Costly 2) Waste of time applying citizenship, medicals, CCTB, etc.
doggie,
Do you live in markham too? I am staying in Tomlinson Circle, do you know where it is? Do you live nearby? ^-^
I went to Wonderland with my baby this morning, and she was scared to death when we were in the water.(We went to the waterpark.)
Stephenietam - I found from the map and know where u are... I am north of where your lived. Woodbine and Mac Maj..
Wonderland - too expensive for us to go - and too old to play the roller coaster. yes, we heard they have the water park - but still - prefer to go ontario place or even to swimming pool in the community center as some of those do have water slides... :-P
Hello. We're living in Vancouver too. My daughter is 8 1/2 months now. Her name is Ney Chu (nickname). How are you? Where about are you living in Vancouver? We live in Burnaby. Nice meeting you here.
