Japanese men do near the least housework
An international survey shows Japanese men fell into a group doing the least housework.
The Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development has released a survey on 26 of the OECD member countries concerning how much time adults of each sex spend on what the OECD calls "unpaid work".
The survey shows Japanese men spend only 62 minutes a day on housework, second from the bottom only after South Korean men's 45 minutes.
Danish men spend 186 minutes a day on housework or child care, the most among the 26 countries, followed by Norwegian men's 184 minutes and Australian men's 172 minutes.
As for women, the survey shows Japanese females spend about 5 hours on housework, third longest after Turkish and Mexicans, while Swedish women spend 3 hours and 27 minutes, the shortest.
The survey also shows Japanese men spend the longest time commuting. It's about double the time spent by French men.
The OECD says time men spend on housework or child care is increasing in most countries but points out that the disparity between men and women persists.
