You had better call up Imm Dept to check 1st, if they don't need anything from Indo Consulate (i.e. if no need for endorsement by Indo Consulate), and just process it as plain visa extension, then you won't need to go to Indo Consulate at all.
You will know by getting the list of documents required by HK Imm Dept.
