I just got a call from the nurse telling me that 7 of the 10 embryos already have 4 cells on Day 2. I will have the transfer tomorrow. This may be the first time I will have frozen embryos.

Please update your progress if you are also taking the DHEA so that more sisters can benefit.

Dear Frisbe,

Can you remember how many follicles did you have on your day 3 this cycle, were they more than before after taking DHEA?

I did an ultra-sound scan on the day 3 this cycle, could only find 3 to 4 small follicles, same as the last two ivf I did. Not much improvement

Before taking the DHEA, I usually had about 5 antral follicles. After taking the DHEA for 10 weeks, I got 10 follicles on Day 3. After stimulation, 12 follicles showed up. Sometimes, they are still very very small on Day 3 and therefore it is not clear in the u/s.

I had 9 embryos today. 5 are 8 cells, 4 are 6 cells. They thought about doing a Day 5 transfer for me. However, given my advanced age, Dr. Milton Leong decided to go ahead with Day 3.

Dear friends,
I want to report that I've took GNC DHEA for 3-4weeks. During that months, 我有睇中醫同做針灸(4次)&做運動, 加上天時地利人和, I got bingo by natural at that months, it's what a surprise.
For someone who don't know my case, I did 4 IUI, (bingo at 2nd in last August but miscarriage in last Oct), high FSH(12) and just want to take rest in March & April then step to IVF in May.
So don't give up! Blessing to you all!

Hello, I am at my late 30's, I also want to try DHEA, right now I am taking Chinese medicine, i want to know:

1. whether it is ok to take chinese medicine and DHEA at the same time;
2. how many pill should I take daily?
3. So I assume it is daily medicine right? Can I take it during my period?
4. Which brand will you recommend?

Sorry for so many questions, I am really new to this DHEA thing.

Not yet, I didnt do any treatment before, I am going to Union Hospital end of May for the first check up, so I have no idea of my FSH level yet. I heard that it takes month to come to effect, so I want to take it before the IVF treatment.

Dear Flyfive,

I think you should at least test your FSH on Day 3 first before you decide whether you should start to take DHEA, as not everyone should take this supplement, especially who has PCOS . Pls have a look of the following information Frisbe post before:-

1. Who should take DHEA?
a) Women who are older than 40 or
b) younger women who produces less than 4 eggs under high dose of stimulation. They are consider poor responders.

2. How long should you take it?
You can continue to take it when you are doing ivf cycles. No need to stop during stimulation and after embryo transfer. Just continue to take it until you are confirmed pregnant.

3. Dosage of DHEA?
He recommends us not to take the over-the-counter DHEA (like the ones we got at Mannings) because we do not know how much can be absorbed in our bodies. His patients use micronized and pharmaceutical grade, 25 mg and 3 times per day. Total 75 mg per day. You can order it from the U.S. Many places carry it and I found the following website useful about this kind of DHEA.

4. How long will it take effect?
It usually takes 4 to 5 months for it to reach the peak effect. It is better to do ivf after 4 to 5 months taking it.

5. Any side effects?
He did not see any side effects in his patients.

Since one of our sisters, 高齡產婦, has such good results after taking the DHEA, it reminded me another point that Dr. Gleicher told me. He suggested that those who take the DHEA should continue to have active sex because once the egg quality is improved, it is easier to get pregnant. Dr. Gleicher does have patients got pregnant within a couple of months.

do u think DHEA is also ok for those PCOS patients? I could produce >8 eggs everytimes i did IVF, but the quality was getting worse and worse expecially when i did 2nd IVF (all are grade 3 eggs).... do u think DHEA is able to improve the egg's quality too? many thanks!

I agree with Frisbe, we should have regular sex when we are trying for conceive even taking DHEA.

I think a lot of sisters are thinking to take this supplement, but pls make sure that you understand your situation and needs before taking it....
