When you have time/chance, learn how to drive and get the driver license first. In case you need to drive in the future, then you will have more "years" in your record. Insurance company may count how many years you have your driver license in order to determine the rate.
I think if you have a brooklyn address, you can still go to SI for the road test, that's where my friend got her license, and according to her, it's easier! Good luck ar!! It's fund to drive and be independent, I can go shopping by myself anytime, hehehe
