It's of coz not necessary, depends on what you want. If you are full time mom, you can bring baby to play with other kids in playground. Or go out shopping or dinning to see more people. Go to playgroup can let the babies or kids develop social skills. That's good indeed.
The playgroups in Aus is different than those in HK.
The HK style is more academic or aim more at teaching. The playgroups here is mainly PLAY. There may not be a "teacher"; but a "coordinator". They put boxes of toys on the floor and let the kids to have free play. The moms sit aside together to chat and have coffee. :D
You can go to have a look first and see if that's what you want.
Tina,
Is Janice too young to join the playgroup as she still can't sit in her own (need my help)? How does she play with another babies/childred?? I have a look of your provided link and found that most of them (near to my home) are for playing....
Should I need to wait until she can walk, or at least she can play toys (She only bite her toys, not play them)
I see some very young babies in playgroups. They may just lie on the floor and see other babies play. Even they're not playing themselves, they are learning actually. They learn by watching and listening. The main point is, YOU enjoy it or not. You may play with your baby or have a little free time to chat with the other moms.
Nathan hasn't gotten a place in playgroup yet. Still on waiting list. I bring Nathan to music class since he's 7 months. He can't sit that time, so I hold him in my laps and play with the songs and music. Here's the company website:
May be you can check with some nearby playgroups and put Janice's name in waiting list first, in case they are full currently.
Good luck!
Tina

I'm not member. I think different playgroup operate differently. I just called the playgroup phone no. and followed instruction for registration. I left voicemail and waited for call back. I think email or make a phone call are both fine.

Thank you Tina.
By the way, I'm quite stupid, I don't know how to queue up to the playgroup. Anyway, I sent email to that playgroup.
Should I need to be member first? Are you a family member??
This term costs $91 for 8 classes. The last term in 2007 was $100 for 10 classes. I don't know why there's different price in different terms. But it's roughly about $10 per class. 30mins per class. Really like burning $$...
