we did not bought the whole turkey.. but just the turkey leg... stuff with the veggie and the meat, Wrap with the foil and put to the charcoal for burning.

weekend is coming - any speacial plan? we just have our driveway done yesterday... so our house is cleaner than before. less dust and dirts

Hi everyone,

I have a question and hope that some of you can help me.

Me and my husband have been canadian citizens for over 15 years (originally from HK). We now have a 2 year-old daughter who was born in Canada (i.e. born after 1997).

Some of my friends told me that she does not have HK residency, unless SHE goes back to HK and live there for another 7 years. She got this information from HK immigration office.

But have any of you successfully apply the residency for your child (similar to my case)? If so, how did you do it.

my younger daughter was born inn 1998 in Canada. We went back to hk when she was 3 weeks. She got a stamp from hk immigration to stay for 3 months in hk only. during these time, i went to the immigration dept and apply for the hk citizen for her. of course they will ask if we will be staying in hk from that time onwards, yes is my answer. this conditon was immediately cancel. i then applied the hk id card and hk passport for her. we stay in hk for 1 1/2 years before coming back to canada again.

hope this help, but we applied in hk not in canada.

did you and your spouse go to the immigration office together, or by yourself only? My friend went by herself only as her husband was still in Canada at the time. She tried to apply for citizenship for the baby but was refused, and the baby only get an extension of stay.

BTW, for a baby, what kind of HK id card will she get?

i went by myself. did your friend say they will not be staying in hk?? if yes, the officer may refuse for the citizenship. however i applied for her in 1998, but the law may change.

my girl got the normal hk id for children, without photo.

I checked the HK immigration website, looks like that they have a "grace period" until Dec31, 1998. So, you may be one of those lucky ones.

I wonder if anyone here has heard from others or tried themselves to get the HK residency for their children after 1998.

one of the bk mom once shared with me saying her baby boy got rejected for the HK ID.

her boy was born in 2003 here in Canada. She went back to HK in 2004 Feb to apply for ID.

she got rejected as when filling in the form - she put Nationality = Canadian...

I guess, you will have to be tricky in answering the question. never mention you have overseas nationality. You have the intention to live in HK.. Then should be of no problem.

Plato, your question is so vague..
are you asking the province (ie. Ontario, Vancover, albert, halifax) or the city (scarborough, Markham..etc).

I lived in Markham, toronto, came here in 2002 dec.. All I could say is Toronto, is more like HK.. will get adopt to it very easily...

Thanks for your reply. Yes, my question is vague. Actually I really have no idea on Canada. So we want to do some research first. There are quite a lot of questions in my mind. But for the time being, I want to figure out the followings:

1. Which province should I choose?
2. Is it difficult to find a job?
3. Is it difficult for my girl to adopt school life there? Can I find a good school for her?
4. Does it take long for the immigration dept. to accept our application

1. Do you have any relatives or friends in canada? you may consider this for your choice. have you sent in your application form? close relatives counted for points. toronto and vancouver have quite a lot of chinese. (you can apply for alberta, but move to ontario after landing in the past, but i'm not sure now - - if you need to stay in the applied province until you get your citizenship.) so please check and think about before applying for which province.

2. which field are you in for occupation? you may not be able to get the same job type because you do not have any canadian experience.

3. it is very easy for kids to adopt to new school life and friends. my girls were doing good when they first arrived. you can check with friends which school is good and move to nearby. school will accept the kid if you live in their school net (in ontario). i am not sure if you can enter any school you like in vancouver, as i once heard from news that you can enter whichever school you like in vancouver if they have seated (better check with some vancouver moms).

4. no idea, check with your immigration consultant or the canada consulate direct. it may varied by which category you are applying for. i submitted my form direct to the canadian consulate for job nature category; and not through any consultant. it took me about 10 months.

1. i think only close relatives are counted, e.g. parents; sister/brother etc. i am in toronto, but if you consider for weather, i would prefer vancouver. it is really very very cold in winter here. i start to worry now, winter is approaching soon.

2/4. sorry, i should say skilled worker instead. i can't tell if it is easy to find a related job here, it depends on luck; and i have no knowledge of your field. i submitted my form as skill worker for exe. secretary. i have nearly 15 years of exp., but when i applied for job in toronto, all except one replied that i do not have any canadian exp. my question is - how can you gain any canadian experience if there is no company started to employ you!! experience in hk are not counted. i am lucky as one company gave me a chance to start, this is the one that i am working now, but not as sec - (sort of co-ordinator in claims department). i found a job in about 1 month which is very very lucky when compared with others.
you will need to check with the consulate for which type of skill worker are they considering now, this change from time to time.
if you are looking for better living standard (bigger living space, car etc), more time with family, less pressures in studies for kids etc. canada is a good place. the life style in canada is really different from hk.

yes, we are of similar case.

1. my husband applied as the skill worker - accountant, but at the time he applied, does not gain higher scores. Since he had brother/sister here, we have 5 more point. My BIL willing to sign up a sponsorship form to undertake our financial issue for the next 10 years. then we have another additional marks.

yes, Vancouver is much warmer than in Toronto (in winter time) but talking about job opportunties, most people said (and I personally admit that) here in Toronto, you will have greater chance to get a job.

2. I myself is in the accounting field too, and know nothing about education/media. But for sure, we got so many broadcasting company here in Toronto, your world-wide experience might help a bit.

I am kind of lucky, I got my job thru' the agency, and work as temp/contracted first and then change to permanent.. Agreed with ckkwkl, most of the company request canadian experience (that's why my husband still idle at home) especially for senior position, but small potato like me... they don't really care.

I don't know how others canadian mom/dad, but since I only come recently, I still prefer the lifestyle here -more relexing... no overtime, 5 days work. but of course $$ is much less than in HK. so don't ever think of vacation travel to overseas once a year... but here we have so many places to explore. your kids should love that.

I married a Canadian this year and submitted my application to being a citizenship already. In fact, I'm now here in Etobicoke area, but be honest, I can't adopt the life here yet... I will come back to HK next week.

Another problem is, we still discussing where should I give delivery of our kid in the future.

sorry to hear that you can't adopt your life here and need to go back. is your hubby going together with you? just being nosy.

I have a friend who is similar to you. She got a decent job in HK. and flew to here back in Sept. Can't tolerate the life here (she at that time lived in Etobicoke too) and saying for sure, she won't come to here.. so her boyfriend (who is actually our friend) does not know what to do next. As he got a decent job here.

I don't have any kid of my own, but if you want me to say... depends on where you will be in the future? where you want your kids to have education? May be I am kind of traditional, wish to have the family together in one place...

In fact, my citizenship still not granted yet, and it's a good excuse for me to going back to HK lor.

And this time, it's my term to being nosy, just want to know did your girl-friend went back to HK and leave the boy friend eventually ??

My husband know that he better kill me if I stay home for all the time, he is trying to look for a job for me, however, just thought that it's not easy lor, especially my citizenship haven't grant yet.

Winnie, the girlfriend went back to HK. Boy friend intially plan to go to HK in Dec, but due to the work.. can't take vacation by then.
now.. they are kind og "cooling " down. the girl side already said if that's the case - better stop and don't go futher.. while the boy still kind of insisting to maintain the relationship - a tough one.

you could start checking up the market, but I don't think you could start working before your landing visa is granted. :lol:
