I came in 2002 Dec.. lucky I got the job in the same field (accounts) as before. But workload - much relax than in HK, pay of couse less la.

for me, I think it is o.k. wor. as I first I lived in the area full of chinese.. so easy to adopt lor.

I still watch chinese TV, listen to chinese radio. so nothing really changed.

Except I am the only chinese in the dept.. so I seldom talk (unlike in HK - I could easily chit chat with my colleague with all sorts of things).

here feel a bit lonely at work. so sign on to BK lor (to kill my time)

If I work as a labour in Toronto, such as work in KFC or somrwhere like that. Can I earn about 2500CAD/month? How much does the living cost of a 4 member family?

don't know much about KFC paid or so.. but here in Toronto, will have the minimum pay.. like $6.85 (or so) per hours.
Guess KFC/McDonald, all in hourly rate, and not sure how many hours to work per shift.. so can't even tell.

I do know a person working in the Chinese resturant as waiter. may $5/hr, but (cash - no tax deduction) + tips. about $1300 a month.. but really long working hours...

I don't know how much the living costs for 4 members

for me - the first year I came:
1. rent - $1000
2. food - $150/week
3. misc items (like toilet paper, household stuffs) - $200
4. transportation - $300

but we got only 2 of us. so not sure if that could help or not.

I'm already back to Hong Kong lar..

I also tell my husband that I can be selling dim-sum in the resturant lar, but he said, it's no benefit to work as dim-sum selling lor.. :mrgreen: :mrgreen: and most important is, the working hours are too long that I don't have time to accompany him lar..

But if you have a job in HK ? What do you do ?

Is it the canadian culture that they don't gossip during working hour or just you can't adopt their society jar..

they do gossip.. but most of them will talk about TV shows (which I seldom watch) - I watched chinese channel ma. :-(

besides, most of them being here for at least 15 yrs. and most the people they talked about.. i am not aware of .. so hardly join them lor

Just want to know that the environment is good for baby, I mean the education. If a 2 years baby live here, it's very easy to adopt. As I think to immigrate to Canada. How about the IT Job in cananda? It's easy to find a job in IT field?

I worked for a computer software company. The business for the past 2 years was no good. I guessed it is the trend. we already have the rumor there will be a "sharp" cut to the staff by end of the year. so just can't said the IT business is good.

but depends on what type of IT job you are looking for. I knew a friend who easily got an government job within 1 month (even it is a contracted job, but who knows that it will become permanent later on)

Thank you for your information. My husband is working in banking industry. He is mainly working on systems development, systems analyst and project management for almost 15 years. Is it still difficult to find a job in Toronto?

I am a new mommy, my son Nathan is 3 months old. I live in Markham, Ontario. I want to ask if anyone know of any good daycare or person to look after him? I am planning ahead for I will be going back to work next August and I am worried :cry: I asked my nephew's one but they only take 18 months on. Nathan will only be 12 months then.

one of my friend worked in the System support of the local bank here.. got laid off as the whole support team (call center) being outsourced to India.. as the labour is much cheaper there.

depends on what kind of system development your husband is really working for. AS 400 is already out? here they need the High end server.. so if he know such may be an advantage.

Hi doggie - long time no chat la! How are you doing?
Busy these few months, started a part-time job in August & then the kids start school in September. Work during those hours when they are in school, so no more free time, and they even provide me w/ note-book to finish my work at home. So I don't even have time to grocery shopping, but when you receive the pay cheque it's really happy, because I have been out of work for almost 9 years since my son was born. My hubby is out of town to Van till Fri night, so I can skip cooking dinner for the next few days, plan to go to KFC tonite w/ the kids to enjoy the $2.22, my son loves it.

Time to pick up my son, chat later!!
