I lived in Oakland before for some times. To be honest, the security is worse recently. I won't like to live there esp if I have kids there. Though the Oakland hill area is better... but still... I will try to avoid Oakland if there's choice. Also, I have the feeling that the Oakland public school is not that good. Maybe you need to look for private school if you have small kids depends on where in Oakland.

加州...黎緊出年我都過去望下個環境先...
其實我都心大心細, 因為自己大學係主修chemistry...過到去都唔知做乜...
01年畢業時, 我做過幾年bank...
之後就轉左行做property management...
所以都唔知去到做乜...

原來起一層樓要30-40萬o家...咁即係大約300萬港幣..

Not too long ago, there were two teenagers hit a Chinese man out of no special reason (well, may be racism) and the man die. That was in bright day time. People got hit/rob etc a lot there. I have family friends live there (no car) by lake merrit & Oakland chinatown and they all don't go out after 6pm.

I feel safer to walk in my city's downtown even at 11pm-midnight. The bookstore close at midnight and we sometimes would stay there to read at night.

咁要睇你搵咩contractor，一般有牌嘅都唔會收得少，因為佢地要領牌要有保險請合法勞工，加上人工同材料，太平的恐怕手工未必會好好，又或者你可以用d冇咁好嘅料，咁起一間屋都想會住得好耐，冇理由話想三兩年又維修嘛，之前我都有問過價，最平都要二十幾萬，仲未計料。

則就一定要入，仲要等批同冇人反對，如果唔係就有排搞。咁劃個則都要搵個有牌則師做，又係一筆錢。不過你反而要查清楚起咗多一間屋之後要俾多幾多稅，我唔係太清楚呢方面，唔知要唔要加多好多稅同點計。

Yes, it is so sad. My hubby refuses to go to Oakland if he can choose not to. We used to go there at least once per year to celebrate my great aunt's birthday and my hubby hated that. We did not feel secured even when we were sitting inside their home, not talking about a restaurant.

I think a lot of cities in Chicagoland area are better than Oakland, CA. Again depends on which area. But the south side of Chicago 就多黑人啲。Chicago downtown, 2x th street not too far from Chinatown but not in Chinatown, suburbs like Naperville etc, north side suburbs 都不錯，我在 chicago 都住了頗一段曰子. Tho the weather is much nicer in SF bay area .

我現在住南灣，oakland在東灣。If i pick, I won't pick Oakland. SF bay area 的樓價一般較芝加哥那邊貴，不過芝加哥冬天天氣冷，又要摌雪（unless u live in apt etc),有些人覺得非常不習慣。選那裏落腳都是是乎你的喜好和適應能力。如果你想維持多些港式口味，bay area 買中國東西食物用品便方便些。不過芝加哥的chinatown也不小。maybe u can visit both places before making a decision.

我女兒9月將讀幼稚園,現煩誰可以送她和接她, 因她的接送時間剛好是我上班時間, 請問各位媽媽有什麼同類經驗可以分享

you can communicate with the school.
Usually, if it is a zone school (included kindgarten), they have school bus for zone student or private school bus. Or you will have to ask the PTA for another car pool around your neighborhood.
I drop off my children in the morning, school for my son opens at 7am, my daughter's school open at 7:30am. I dropped them off.
Then, at afternoon, my children join the afterschool program, until me or my husband goes to pick them up.
My son's daycare closes at 7pm, and my daughter's afterschool program last until 5:45pm.
Before and afterschool program will be your option.
If your child's school with website, go and do some research.

我兩個小朋友在香港都中學分別1315year,但聽親友講係 SFO ,唔過18YEAR係唔可以自己出街同返學,一定要大人陪,對嗎?
咁我一定要考車牌送佢地返學同放學,請問佢地咁大個學校有無校車接送,謝謝

我估你親戚冇小朋友,呢度只要去到middle school就可以自己返學,大約係12-13歲,如果讀公校係有校車,不過如果你係頭站,而學校又遠加埋架校巴要接其他小朋友,有機會你對小朋友要坐好耐先可以返到學~如果你住喺San Francisco City,呢度d muni (即係巴士)都非常方便,我都係日日搭兩架巴士同我小朋友返學,都係半個鐘時間,睇你住果區方唔方便啦,我之後去返工,由屋企出門口到我返到公司(包咗送仔仔入學校同佢纏住我d時間)都係一個鐘~
