I'm thinking about doing IVF soon, want to ask you a few questions...
做IVF前,女人要做blood tests, 要喺D2/3時做嘅, 想問如果今個cycle Day2 做test,下個cycle先做IVF得唔得呢? 定係要同一個cycle內做先有用呢?
Have you consulted an ivf doctor already? Sometimes your infertility issue may simply require ovulation induction, i.e. you may not need ivf.
For ivf, there may be some initial investigations first other than just a few blood tests. The D2/D3 blood test you mentioned requires to be done on cycle day 2/day3 and they are definitely useful for that particular cycle. If you will do ivf in another cycle, the blood test from previous cycle(s) may still provide a reference; and during the ivf process, there will be blood tests every few days to monitor your progress.

By 15/9, most eggs (won't be all eggs, ok?) should have grown enough for the doctor to at least estimate your retrieval date. I hope you will be fine so that your leave will be worthwhile.
I think it is too early to feel 肚谷, those jm's are having injections on their belly, not pat pat. You are therefore totally normal, no reason to worry at all. 肚谷often happen much later if you have:
(i) too many eggs; (ii) too nervous and some constipation problem; (iii) ovaries are over-stimulated; (iv) psychological effect?
So, if you don't have the bloated feeling, you should be happy.
Talk soon after your update. Good luck tomorrow :)

1. It won't be that dramatic. Once an embryo has implanted, it will do most, if not all, the work in sustaining itself inside the uterus. We always say there is a "cross-talk" between the embryo and the uterus. The HRT supplementation is mainly to help in making this "cross-talk" begin. So, don't be surprised that there are many clinics which stop hormone supplementation once bingo is confirmed.
2. It is not quite explosion, the term 爆 refers to the osmotic shock which a cell couldn't withstand during the freeze-thaw process. When the cell cannot recover, it withers and dies; more like a flower that turns brown which is an obvious sign of dying. 碎片(fragmentation), on the other hand, is more like falling apart. Can't think of a good analogy, perhaps think of it as if you have dry skin. You have these dry flakes coming off, but you may be totally fine in a few days, or you may have skin problems. Although fragmentation in embryos is not a good sign, it has been shown that some cells are able to re-absorb the fragmentation. When fragmentation is not excessive, the embryo often has reasonable potential.
3. As long as I can see some cells in an embryo, I also tend to give the embryo back to the patient. Although its chance of success may be very low, the chance will be zero if I don't even give you the embryo. Only when I can be 100% sure an embryo has no chance, I will discard instead of transferring it into the uterus.
It is very harsh on you to get this result. However, for the same reason that you have already done the best you could in this cycle, it would be unethical to put you through egg retrieval and give you false hope. Seeing most eggs not growing, the chance of a failed ivf outweighs that of success; instead of investing more time and $$ in a fruitless cycle, recuperate and come back strong will be a much more constructive approach.
You can easily find what is involved in the whole process of ivf on-line. Time line depends on the protocol used. If you think you will need ivf, make an initial consultation with an ivf specialist; most ivf clinics have very helpful pamphlets to understand the whole process.
My 1st ivf is confirmed failed and I am really hurt.
Yesterday I saw the doctor and she just said that given my FSH is 11, the chance of success is slim. She suggested me to try another round of ivf right away. But I've spent some 60K this time and seems that the treatment does not help much. I only have one Grade 2 and one Grade 3 embryos. So I told the doctor that I wouldn't try again for the time being coz I need to take a rest both physically and psychologically.
I hope that you can give me some advice on how I can enhance my chance of getting bingo. Would doing more exercise or keeping fit help? I am 1.63m tall and weigh 130 pounds. Do I need to reduce weight? How about the food that should be taken more/avoided? Most grateful for your advice.
I am sorry about your failed cycle. Take some time to rest first.
It looks like you are not ready to start again that soon, but you still plan to persue another ivf cycle, is that correct?
Your FSH is a little high which indicates diminishing ovarian reserve. This is something we cannot rewind the clock; however, given your age, your FSH may increase or decrease (just a little bit) in each cycle. If you will go for another ivf, your doctor will hopefully check FSH on day3 again; but no matter what you do, I am afraid the egg number will be similar and won't increase/decrease by a big magnitude. When you recover from this round of despair, come back as soon as you can.
Your BMI is fine, based on your height and weight. My theory of doing exercises is to keep you fit, keep the bloodflow (your circulation) in good shape so that the blood oxygenates your reproductive organs well, which will hopefully give you better quality eggs and a receptive endometrium. Just a logical thinking; you are the one having that troubled body and mind. You should feel the difference once you start a healthier living, especially if you are not used to exercising. Remember, I am not asking you to get training in a gym, you probably should not train like an athlete. Just as the TV says, ~30 minutes a day or 3 times a week, do something that can give you a good sweat. Just an easy suggestion, take a walk in the morning or after dinner in a park or along some walking trails; you may jog if you like. Do so everyday or every other day; take a good shower afterwards. Take your husband with you if you can, tell him this helps sperm quality as well. Making a baby is a commitment of a man and a woman, don't just take this responsibility totally to yourself alone.
Having a healthy lifestyle (moderate exercises + balanced diet + good rest) makes you feel good about yourself. When you feel good overall, you have better confidence and a positive attitude towards everything. Still can't guarantee success, but at least you gain better health no matter what.
I also wish to find the few good food or herbs that can "heal" fertility issues. If such a potion or combination exists, there won't be so many jm's heartbroken with no bingo. If you stick to a BALANCED diet, you know what is beneficial and what should be avoided; not a difficult science.
Good luck and hope to hear your next step. Take care,

During my FET, the specialist defrozen 4 embryos in which 3 of them are grade 1 and one is grade 2+. But only 2 survived finally!
The specialist said due to the black spots in two embryos, they cannot survive! I was shocked. 50% of good grade embryo cannot survive! my remaining embryo are not as good grade as those were defrozen. Probably many of them have black spots????
how oftenly do embryo have black spots in your lab? seems I rarely hear frozen embryo has black spots.
what is the reason of having black spots? does my egg quality no good because of my age? I m 34 now. or because I had OHSS during IVF, producing too much eggs and makes egg quality bad?
My doctor said my eggs were already here 7-8 years ago and these black spots exist years ago. I really don't understand what she means.
Please see if you have give me some advice. Thanks so much.
How are things with you? Did you check your bingo with your doctor, perhaps with ultrasound scan already?
I looked back at all your messages and figured that I didn't reply your last one, my apology. So, you have generally 2 questions: 1. black spots; 2. your eggs were already there 7-8 yrs ago....
To get to your first question, I don't know what "black spots" your doctor was referring to. I am just guessing that he/she might be referring to degenerated cell(s) within an embryo. In this case, the degenerated cell appears brownish or dark as compared to the rest of the living cells within the same embryo. My reply earlier to Littletwinkle (reply #1310) explained why the degeneration and how it looks like; here is a re-cap:
" the term 爆 refers to the osmotic shock which a cell couldn't withstand during the freeze-thaw process. When the cell cannot recover, it withers and dies; more like a flower that turns brown which is an obvious sign of dying."
It is worth to note that let's say an embryo has 4 cells before freezing; it may be intact after thawing, i.e. still having 4 cells, or with any number of those cells degenerate. Usually, we call the embryo has survived when at least half of the original number of cells do not degenerate upon thawing. Of course we like a thawed embryo to be intact; however, many embryos still give live births even when they have a few cells (usually one or two cells) degenerated.
On very very rare occasions, there could also be some serious granulation within cells. I don't want to go into those because I have only come across 1 or 2 patients (in among thousands) who have this pathology occuring in nearly all her eggs.
Now, your second query.... I am totally lost too. Are your embryos frozen from 7-8 years ago? Any chance you may have a photo of those black spots??
Thanks for remembering me. I think i made wrong attention in my last note and thats why you missed it. Its all my fault.
Today's my 6th day having bedrest coz i hv been 流啡since Tuesday. I rushed to emergency on tuesday & saw my ivf doctor on wesnesday. I double checked my hcg was 917 on sep5 (bingo test day) which you asked me b4 and then i had ultrasound and saw one 9.7mm 胎long and it's 彎彎長長 on sep 13(5 week something). The doctor at emergency said my 胎long's shape was not round shape which is no good. My ivf doctor said shape doesn't matter. Anyway, i hope my bb is ok and i dont know why i m still bleeding even i had progesterone oil based injection50mg once every two day, on top of my pessaries 2 x 400mg per day. Estrofem 2mg increased from 3 times to 4 times everyday. I m not sure how long i can keep my bb and i hope everything goes fine soon.
Going back to my embryos. I only retrieved my eggs once which is 3 months ago. The embryo specialist said my embryos dead due to black spots. My doctors said those black spots exist long time ago in my eggs in ovaries.(7-8 years ago??) Usually, embryos will try to expell some no-good substance inside the cells and push to cell membrane. Black spots are too big to expell and that's why embryo fails to expell it and die finally. This is my doctor explanation. But still i dont understand why there are black spots in my eggs. I never heard jm here talked about this. And what i know is my good grade embryo dead and no good grade embryo are still being frozen without knowing whether they hv spots!
They did not show me my dead embryo picture. But i just wonder if my other frozen embryos also have black spots too. Thats why i wonder is there any problem in my ovaries and what i can do.
after months, i'm moving to FET procedure next cycle la~~ to recap a bit, i did IVF in May and have 13 embryos frozen. I could not do ET last time coz of thickened endometrium.... my doctor found some polyps inside and i did a surgery to remove them two weeks ago. So the plan now is to do a natural cycle FET when ms M visits again.
i'm now 32 y.o., and i am told that the success rate of pregnancy will be around 50%. My doctor suggested to transfer two embryos, and may consider one embryo if i like, and comment that the difference of successful rate will differ by 10%. I have some concerns for transferring two embryos, coz i heard that the likelihood of having twins is not low, and i'm worried about the risks of bearing twins too. Also I'm wondering the thawing procedure too. My doctor told me that the chance of embryos to survive through thawing should be over 90%. I'm wondering if it happens that the embryo doesn't look good after thawing, will there be enough time to thaw another one or I need to wait for another cycle again?
