Re: Any mother is living in USA now - Part ll

CKF,
Did you buy the chinese education tools from HK, USA somewhere, or online? I know you mentioned books and homeworks are from school. That's very nice they provided that without extra payment. $390 USD for 10 months actually I think that is a very good price. Did your daughter like to write chinese? I knew a lot of ABC didn't like to write Chinese. That's very good idea to make the child into a habit of writing. I will try to learn from you. Probably having my daughter reading story book with me will increase her interest in Chinese too. I got to prepare that! :-P I love this forum! It's so educational!!!!! :-P :-P

Re: Any mother is living in USA now - Part ll

小肥佬,
It's so good that you can keep good Chinese knowledge. I have been here since 2000 and now I find out I use more English than Chinese! I think that's not a good news!
Your 肥佬 is a self-employer, the insurance is so expensive your you guys in USA. Well.. overall insurance here is overpriced anyway. Hey... it's good to know if you can have insurance for baby because you just have to pay $10 (co-pay)to get baby vaccination and physical exams. Without insurance, I don't know why much is those shots!

妳個仔最後幾時先識 how did you train him??>>>> you don't have to train them particularly, when they are ready, they will make the 1st step , I have let my son used the walker but the study said is not good and safe for babies and it could delay the walking process anyway, don't worry, I don't think anything wrong with Fatbean, she just know how to relax, I always said, once they know how to walk, they are going to be on their own, so you see, she is a very smart one. :-P

Mothercare? No sure in NY, only know about the motherhood, which is for the maternity wears. Toy'R'Us, Babys'R'US>> good choice for the baby accessories, you can find everything for the newborns' needs from there.
For the children's clothings>>ersonally , I like Gymboree, Disney's store,Baby Gap,... you can find them in any shopping mall and there are outlets in NY, Woodbury or Jersey Garden Mall (indoor outlets) in New Jersey, they have the brand name with the discount price.

clareb:
I am a Shanghainese too and same as my hubby's family, what a conincident right? , The only time I need to speak in Shanghainese is when I am with my grandma and sometimes to my in-laws.
I only expected my son to speak and understand in Cantonese, for the writing part>>> his parents (which is me and my hubby) we can't really write well either,so I guess is okay
Is that your baby girl's photo on the left? She is so pretty

Re: Any mother is living in USA now - Part ll

CUTIE_MOMMY,
Yes, that is my baby daughter. Thank you. She is about 2 2/3 months only at that time! :D How's your son learning Cantonese (speaking and writing)? Does he like to speak chinese? How old is your son?
My grandma is 83 years old too. She used to speak Cantonese to me. However, now she just know how to speak Shanghaiese to me. You know.. that reminds me to call her and talk to her. I didn't talk to her for a while. I miss her. However, I am in USA and she is in Shanghai! That's hard! :( Anyway, got to let her know i miss her. :D

Re: Any mother is living in USA now - Part ll

Jaan :

Thanks for your info.

In fact, I'll stay 20 days from June 7 to June 27. It's because I want to change the new HKID this time and people told me it takes 2 weeks to get it.

I think I will bring my daughter to Ocean park. The Bear "kingdom" (not sure the English name) at TST was not that worth to go. We've been there around the grand opening time and she already had pictures with those big bears. We didn't go inside last time because people told me not worth of the money.

BTW, do you know any place that offer short swimming lession for kids. Private lession is also fine as I want to let my daughter learn swimming. She love to play water and it's just something fun for her to do while we are in HK.

Re: Any mother is living in USA now - Part ll

ckf,

If you stay at Kowloon Hotel, you can try to ask YMCA ( TST ), it maybe they have summer class ( swimming ) for kids. Was your daughter born in USA? Do you know if parents were born in HK, but kids born in other country, the kids can apply the HK ID???

You play Cantonese songs and story CD to your daughter. Can you tell me which CD is the best for 1 year-old bb? I want to ready for my bb.

Re: Any mother is living in USA now - Part ll

小肥佬,

Me too! When we decided to install "DirecTV", I wanted to subscribe the Chinese channel, however: I also thought the fee is expensive. Additional, my hubby don't want me spend more time for Chinese program, he wants me to learn better my English. Thus, we don't have Chinese channel so far.

About the insurance, I agreed you that is very expensive if we have not insurance. Like me, I had a c-section, it was only my hospital fee, the bill was US$9xxx ( not include bb fee ). Lucky, I have a good insurance, they could cover all of the expense.

About the 4D, that is not include, we asked my OB, but she don't think I need, so she was not writing approve paper to me. ( no approval paper, the fee is expensive ) When that time, I onlined to watch the sample 3D & 4D, I found out I don't like to see at the moment. Thus, I only got the ultersound and I was happy. (It maybe change my thought in the future??? )

--------------------------------------------------------

另外, 未有bb前,肥佬又好似join 咗一個plan for having the bb.

My grandma is very close to us, she helped my mom to take care us when we were little so now is our turn to help her. She came to US because she wanted to live with us, she means a lot to my family, we all love her to death so that's why no matter how tough, we will try our best to take care her at home instead of putting her to the nursing home cuz that is the only one thing she had ever requested from us.
How is your bb girl now?

Clareb:
I am sure your grandma knows you care about her and miss her, sometimes just a simple phone call means a lot to the elderly How old is your bb girl? My son just turned 3, he can speak fluent cantonese, of course not the writting la :-P
One time, there is an american woman who heard my son spoke chinese and english and she was so impressed and said, " wow, he is so little and already bilingual" I believe is always a benefit if you know more than one language but I won't push him, as long as he can speak and listen in chinese, is good enough to me already.

clarab

我都好掛住我的媽媽和grandma,所以我都會一個星期倒打一次電話比佢哋,不過現在佢返咗大陸,巳遲d先可以打比佢哋囉....

我成日覺得d上海姑娘好高好靚架...好有氣質...

Re: Any mother is living in USA now - Part ll

mrsyip :

I bought those CDs from the book fair in HK 3 years ago. You may go to the web site "www.bear.com.hk" to check it out. I read the news a while ago, that there will be a book fair held in July in HK convention centre, so may be you can go to the fair to check it out as they usually will have a few publishers selling child's song CDs and you can listen one by one before you decide which one is best for your bb. BTW, it's cheaper to buy at the fair and more free gift too.

I'd got the right of abode approval paper from the immigration dept for my daughter. when she turn 11, she can apply the HKID. I did the application when last time I went back to HK as I worry the law will change later and it may be more difficult to get the HKID for my daughter.

Re: Any mother is living in USA now - Part ll

Clarab:

Some of the books and CDs are bought from HK, some of them I bought online at
www.yesasia.com and some of the exercise I bought at the Chinese bookstore here(but they usually sell more Taiwanese books or exercise books. )

My daughter likes to read and draw more than write but I insist her to do her homework (English, Chinese and Maths) everyday. It may only one or two rows Chinese or one to two pages English and Maths but she has to finish what I was assigned for her before she go play or watching video. I started this routine since she starts the Chinese class at her 3 years. Now she sometimes will tell me she is going to do her home work right after her lunch. Of course, I have to give her some incentives(like go out to park, play some special game, an icecream, etc.) after she finish her home work and if she is doing a good job.
