We didn't apply for PR until June this year since my husband was working as contractor ( still working now ). We couldn't decide where we should be .. HK or Aus .. . We like Aus but we've no relatives here.
Now we have baby and finally have decided to stay here. We have been to HK last month and found that it's easier to raise kids in Aus. ... I can't even bring baby out for a nice walk in HK because of the weather and there's no space for walking baby in stroller on the streets ... . I was so upset when in HK as me and baby are trapped at home most of the time ... . Baby even got flu the first time and sick for a week. The air is too bad.
In Aus, although I need to do everything by myself (no maid, no parents help ), it's good to have nice environment that you can go out to have a good breath. Baby is happier also.
We've submitted the PR application in June, so we expect it should be done in 2008.
Baby is not citizen because we are not PR when he's born.
But under the new migration law, our previous period of stay counts. So, we don't need to stay for 4 years to be citizen. In our case, it should be 1 to 2 years only.
cecil,
