Hi Jujee,

I live in Mountain View, not too far from North San Jose. I have a 16-month-old son. Did you just move from aother state/city or you just moved from HK? How do you like SJ area? :)

Hi Bunnymonkey,

My husband worked at another state & we've just moved to SJ in July. My family is in HK & therefore I travel frequently back & forth. My baby & I just got back fm HK 3 weeks ago & will spend more time here in SJ with husband & doggies. (It's not easy flying with young baby by myself). SJ area is nice for kids and our doggies, we are just missing some HK friends here & therefore I would love to link with more mommies who live around the area.

Which part of N. SJ are you in? We're living at North Park village close to Cisco.

My baby only looks chubby, she's born tiny only 4.4lb and now she's about 17lb, catching up fast! Any good Pediatrician you recommend in this area? We had one before but I don't really like him.

I am going to South Cal tomorrow for a few days and I gonna stay in Whittier. Do you all have any recommendation on any good places to visit? My son is 16 months old now and I think we will not going to any theme park this time (he's too small to enjoy the theme parks... waste ticket$).

I will be driving from Mountain View and I have been to LA area twice (been to Disneyland, Universial Studio, LA chinatown, holloywood). Is there any good outlet shopping mall around the area there that's worth checking out? Any good restaurants you would recommend? Thanks!

I am going to stay in someone's house. I am thinking if I should bring the pack n play and the full-size stroller (Graco Metrolite). I think the stroller may be more comfy for my son but then it's too bulky to put in my trunk. Maybe I just bring those $12 umbrella stroller instead (but no storage area underneath that means I need to carry the diaper bag)? Any experience on those? We will have 3 adults and 1 kid for the trip.

So you live close to Milpitas then? (by Cisco) It's not that far from my house. Is your baby a pre-mie? 4.4lb is tiny but I bet she grows very well. My son was only 18lb when he was 13 months. He's now 20.x lb (16 months). His birth weight was 7lb 9.8 oz.

I'm so glad to know someone is really close to us. Maybe we can get together sometime. We're just 5mins away fm Milpitas. My baby's born 36wk5days, as she stopped growing in my tummy at 35wks & therefore the Dr suggested to deliver her asap.

I hope you'll have a nice trip to Sth Cali. How's yr son in the carseat for long driving trip? My daughter can only stand for an hour i.e. fm SJ to San Franc, beyond that she'll start screaming. I'll suggest you bring only the umbrella stroller since you have yr car with you during the trip, just don't pack too much into your diaper bag, you can always go back to yr car to retreive things. Enjoy your trip!

Jujee,

The longest car trip with my son was about 1.5 hr from Mountain View to Stockton. He was fine in his carseat. I am not sure if he's ok to stay in the car for a 6-8 hr trip though. I will see this time. :) Maybe we need to stop in the middle of the trip to change his diaper or feed him etc. Yeah, I guess I will just bring an unbrella stroller then. :)

so u live closed to 1st St.?
we're closed to the SJ airport (maybe a little over 10 mins) and closed to the border of Milpitas (a little over 10 mins to Ulfer Ctr and Milpitas Sq.).

today i just met my friend whose girl's also 8 months old. they also live in N. SJ. oh ... actually her husband also works for Cisco.

Are you a working mom or stay at home Mom? I'm a stay at home mom so Im quite free while my husband goes to work. Maybe we can meet up sometimes. Do you know any good Pediatrician around the area?

Welcome to Bay Area ah! Used to live here yet? I moved from HK about 11 years lu (but I moved to LA for 3 yrs before), I found it's not bad to live in Bay Area ... even I still like HK.

I have a 3 month old boy, and we live in San Ramon ... about 35 minutes from Milpitas.

kinda know where u live now.
yeah, we seem not too far from each other.
so yr husband's office is pretty close to home?? lots of companies in that area.

i used to work until i gave birth to my son 4 yrs ago. hopefully i can go back to work maybe when my son goes to kindergarten next year. it depends on which school and the schedule, etc.

regarding the pediatrician, my son's been seeing Al Shen since he's 18-19 months old. his office used to be in Berryessa which is not too far from us. however, they moved to the Valley Fair area more than a year ago. it's a bit far now but still ok for us (maybe abt 15 mins if traffic ok). he's not perfect to me but the best pedi i ever had. i rated him 8/10. but be warned that it'll take u a long time to wait although u hv an appointment, coz they always double or triple booked the appointments. so expect the whole morning or whole afternoon will be gone when u hv an appointment. he used to have a younger pedi to help him out but now he only hv a PA (physician assistant) instead. atlhough that PA is pro and from Stanford, PA is not the same as an MD. so dr. shen is even busier now.

Thx for the recommedation, I guess if the Pedi is good then you won't mind the waiting. Valley Fair is not too far (aslo 15mins away), we go to Santana Row very often too.

So the kids here go to kindergarden at the age of 5? Does yr son go to pre-school now? I need to start thinking coz you know in HK, you'll need to register yr kids to those good kindergarden when they're only around 1yr old.

My husband doesn't work at Cisco, he works at HP at cupertino, approx 20mins commute.

u know what?! i used to work for HP based in cupertino until i gave birth to my son. which group yr husband's in? i was in consulting services, so i seldom stayed in the office except for the year that i was pregnant.

is yr husband also chinese? coz most people in my group were caucasians and indians. i didn't see many chinese in the cupertino office either but more chinese in the palo alto head office. i wonder if i've met yr husband in the office before ...

btw, for preschool and kindergarten, usually u need to apply a couple months to a year ahead of time. it depends on which school and its vacancies. we can talk more abt it later.

if u can PM me yr email address, i can email u the home page of our pediatrician.

My husband was in Boise, Idaho with the printer group since 2005. He's just been transferred to the cupertino site this July and is now with the Personal Systems group (desktop PC). Yes, he's a Chinese but his family is in Toronto.
