I have a Filippino maid and will be expired in mid August 2005. I've planned to renew her until one thing happened in early November.
I found she made mistake on cooking after I back to home. I scolded her seriously as I always give her notes to refer but she always does things wrong. I was very angry and told her "if you don't want to do, you resign." You just requested me to terminate her if I do not satified her performance.... I told her why she always forgets my instruction. She disagrees and say only 1-2 times. However, she has 1-2 times a week......
Then, she packed her luggage and wanted to leave. I did not say anything about termination of contract but I don't want to talk to you (in English) and I don't want to see your face (in Cantonese). She insisted that I terminated her. I stopped her and said I will call police if she left. After she received a call, she said "I will not leave unless you give me a ticket and one month salary". I then ask her to continue her work.....
Actually, I was very very angry and wanted to let her leave on the next day with one month salary and ticket.
On the next day, I seeked for advice from my agent. They advised us to give her two weeks for review and then make decision. I and husband accepted. She showed me with a black face and hard tone at first though it seemed nothing happened. Then, she resumed normal. Now, she also doed something wrong and unforgettable. But I seldom scold as I know it is useless.
We have a 20-month baby boy and no one at home in day time. I'm afraid she will treat my son not good when no one here. And we find that she prefers to do housework to take care of my son (before our argument). My son attachs her sometimes and she is acceptable only on taking care of my son.
I feel trouble on making decision of renewal. If we decide not to renew her, we need to find another one in May. And we don not knwo my son can attach the new maid or not. If we renew her, I'm afraid she will pack her things and leave once I scold her when she does someting wrong.....
Thanks. I will keep on observe her these months.
However, can you give me some advices on the maid who will easily do it (pack things) again once you renew her or give her chances?
I really afraid the new one worse than this one. So far my existing maid did not tell lies, steal things, borrow money, but forgettable always.
Is it better to hire one who has experienced in Singapore. And which is better, Filippino or Indonesian?
My friend introduced me a philip.maid who's returned to philip. for 3 yrs already, and now I want to direct hire her. But I heard that we must through agency to arrange her to come HK, is that true? If not, what should I do if I direct hire her?
thank you.
Thanks for your advices. However, I still have some question on ending contract and about her leaving (the contact will be expired on 14 August 2005):
1. Can I let her leave 17 days earlier (including 14 days annual leave and 3 rest days) before her expiry if she agrees?
(The Labour Department said I can only let her leave 8 days earlier as she earned only 7 days annual leave after finished one year service. For the other 7 days annual leave, she is granted after finished her second year service, i.e. after 14 August 2005. Is it correct? It makes me confused. Please clarify.)
2. If yes, her last working day should be 28 July 2005. Then, when I should let her leave on, 28th or 29th July morning?
3. Is it right to just pay her only the one way ticket and one month salary on her last day in the above case?
4. When should I inform her I will not renew her contract the latest, according to her leaving date or expiry? Do I need to give her any written notice?
5. How to compromise her leaving date, by written agreement or verbally?
6. If I want the new maid to arrive once after she left, when I need to go to the agency to select another one the latest?
7. Do I need to have some days free to my 2 years old son to forget the old maid? I’m afraid he cannot adapt the new one immediately. If necessary, please kindly advise how long to be free (no maid at home) for us?
8. From your experience, which type of maid you recommend to look after a active 2-year old baby boy? What’s the suitable age, nationality, married status, working experience overseas….? Please kindly give me some advices.
