Hi shiba-inu,

My son is 28 months now, but my memory is still quite fresh because I've nursed him for 26 months. I never fed him formula. He's breastfed exclusively and I started to give him cow's milk when he's over a year old.

1. I borrowed an electric pump from my friend, but I didn't find it very good. Therefore, I used my own manual pump instead. I found the manual is better and practical than the electric one - easier to pump milk. I use Lansinoh breast pump. It's not expensive and it does give you a clear direction on how to use it, when to express milk.

2. I used Avent sterilizer. It's a gift from my friend. It's good.

3. Nursing pad: I used both the reusable/cloth ones (which were bought in HK). I also used the disposable ones. Once you've used the disposable ones, you wouldn't use the reusable ones, haha, because they're just too convenient. I used Lansinoh. I bought a big pack (70 pads or 80 pads?!) from Target. At that time, the pack also included a free gift - a pack of Lansinoh disposable storage bags.

4. Nipple cream - I used Lansinoh again. I found it very good. I put the cream on my nipples when they're sore, dry and cracked. The cracked nippes would "heal" very quickly, usually before my next nursing.

after reading clarab posting, i remember that avent has 2 types of sterilizer...the one that i am using is a standalone unit that can hold 6 bottles and 用電既.

I using Medala Pump in Style and Avent Sterilizer. Also, I bought Avent bottle warmer cause I have to pump all my milk out and store in fridge and to warm them before feed my baby. So, if use the hot water, it take too many work. :cry:
If your baby can latch on your breast, you may not need sterilizer and warmer, only Avent hand pump is fine. I use Lanoish cream and breast pad too but only the first 4 months.

It sounds Natalie is getting better and don't need you to rock her I can imagine if I don't train Chloe and she will like Natalie....so..Add Oil...I am watching you and waiting you success and pass the experience

I noticed Natalie tends to cry longer for her daytime naps compared to bedtime at night. For both the morning and afternoon nap today, she cried for 5 minutes before calming down. Maybe becuz it's bright outside and more temptations. Since we started training, I've brought my Monchichi Monkey to be her bedpal. Becuz the monkey has a little bottle that it sucks on, I will take the bottle out of the monkey's mouth, kiss it's cheeks, and say "gaw gaw chu la"..."mommy loves you". Then I do the same thing to Natalie before I take off. Hope that can be her cue:-P :-P :-P

Valerie is a good girl, didn't give mommy any teething problems Kiss kiss from EE. Natalie was the same, I didn't noticed she was teething until my grandma told me she saw a white line on her bottom gums ...I felt kind of bad You know, I did the bedtime training with Natalie before, but when she was little, it was so sweet to hold her in my arms so I forfeited the training. She was getting the hang of it at that time already (around 6 months).

Since Chloe is younger, it may be a good time for your to start training her. I think she will catch on faster than Natalie

all bay area moms,

i can only come on tue but not wed...and i prefer dynasty in cupertino coz it's closer to 280, hehe.....if meemee can only go to milpitas for lunch that day, it is fine for me too. would it be easier to fix the date and time via email than here??coz my connection to bk is slow during daytime and 'no' in the evening and night time...

leohannah & moms in the bay area,

i don't know where's the Dynasty restaurant in Cupertino. i only know the Joy Luck Club across from HP where i worked. anyway, Milpitas is closer to where we live. however, i would suggest meeting at the May Flower at Great Mall, Milpitas instead of the one at Milpitas Square, coz it usually takes longer time to wait for the table and harder to find parking spaces during lunch time at Milpitas Square, if u're all ok with it.

btw, our new live-in nanny will start working for us coming Monday. so, probably i would come with her if u don't mind.
will confirm with u again by Tue.

I plan to start with breastfeeding, supplement with formula if needed, and hope to hang on as long as I can (please support me ~~~ !) However, since I need to go back to work after maternity leave, I need to pump milk in my office and that’s why I think of milk warmer etc. I think I need electrical pump because I assume it works faster than hand pump, and I heard Medela’s is really good (same opinion as most of u!) The only thing I afraid of is what if I do not have enough milk/ not suitable to use that pump….. in that case $300 electric pump will be a waste lor

ONE SILLY QUESTION: do I need to use nursing pads together with nursing bra?

When will your husband arrive? Start to get excited? It must be very very touching u2 see each other in the airport!
I have no problem in having “noisy” pump, because I can find very quiet “room” in my office (remember? My job’s related to hearing, so our rooms need to be quiet!) All I need to do is to close the door and post “DON’T DISTURB!”

Thanks for all the info ah! We decided not to join the childbirth class but to buy DVD to learn the related ($100 for 3: labor, breastfeeding and take care of bb). We will then “bo” these DVD during every dinner! However, we do sign up for the hospital tour.
These few days I find my tummy so big that it “touches” my breast already ~~~ Seems like all my organs are coming together to give more space for bb…..

I feed my daughter both breastfeeding and formula now and breastfeeding only for 2 mos and I am not going to do that after go back to work, I feed her directly from the breast, I think is easier and you will have more supply than pumping out so you might want to do that while you are home during the maternity leave and especially at the beginning, the more you nurse her the more supply you will have.

You don't have to use the nursing bra with the nursing pads, nursing bra is just more convenient when you need to breastfeed your baby and is better breathable when you use that with the pads. I only use the disposible pads when I go out and which I don't breastfeed her, and when I am at home, I don't use the bras or the pads at all, you will leak more at the beginning but after a while your body will adjust itself, "supply and demand" issue
I didn't use any cream at all for the nipples and they are fine, just make sure don't use soap to clean your nipples when you are taking shower and the ped. has suggested me to use the breastmilk to moisterize the nipples after each feeding and let them try itself should be fine.

Watch more discovery channel programs, especilly the "birth date" it really give you a lot of info. :lol:

Dear Moms,

I feel so sad every time I have to put Natalie down for nap or bedtime. I know she will cry :-( :-( :-( ...my heart is broken :-( :-( :-( At first, she used to stand up on her crib and cry. Last night, when I put her down, she put her head down on her pillow with her butt up and cried. I felt so bad...hai... ...I hope this period will be over soon

i know how heart-breaking it is when you see your darling baby cries just for the sake of training her to sleep on her own :-( :-( :-( . that's why we gave up after trying it for 2 nights when valerie was 4months old. looking at natalie's progess (the crying time is shorter and shorter each day), i think you are not far from success...keep going, in a few days natalie will fall to sleep without crying lah i will hold valerie to sleep for 2 more months and then, it will be her turn to cry to sleep :-( :-( :-( :-( :-(

You don't have to feel bad about the training, it is part of her development process, she has to learn sleep by herself, that would be good for both of u 2. My little boy still cry it out when we put him to bed, but the cry usually last for less than 3 mins, then he will sleep like zzzz. So, I usually just ignore his cry. If I hold him, his brother is going to want the same. Then, I will be in a big trouble.

I was using Medela pump in style, it is pretty good I think. I like it because it is operated by electric, I didn't try any manul one, as I couldn't imagine how hard that would be. I know lots of working moms choose this pump. If you found out it is not suitable for you, you can sell it at eBay. I usually use the nursing pads inside the ursing bras. Lansinoh is the cream I used to use. I didn't use any bottle warmer, I use the hot tap water. It is because I found that the temperature of the bottle warmer is too high, just like boiling water. I heard that it might kill the nutrient in breastmilk if the warming water is too hot. But I might be wrong. I used to use the Avent's microwave sterilizer for the first 2 months. Hope the info helps.

Which pump are you going to get? I bought the Ameda Purely Yours which works just fine for me. I bought it at ebay (not bid, but purchase) that it costs around $100 less than any other places. If you need more info, let me know.

My baby was born on June 26. I’m sure your baby had taken the 2nd part of Hepititis B. Mine took it the day before yesterday and she acts a little different since then. Does your baby act any differently? I think I’m physically recovered, but not mentally…. I still cry once a while, or say I cry very easily. I’m not like that before…..

Will your nanny be a live-in or live-out I will probably hire a live-out at the end of this year to get Natalie ready for my returning to work. I'm hoping to give Natalie and the nanny at least 3 months of training/adjusting period...and longer if necessary. I cannot leave her w/ someone unless I know she is comfortable w/ that person.

I will keep going w/ the training. It's too tough for me to rock Natalie to sleep now that she is 23 lbs Sometimes she even refuses to be held

It must be cute to see the twins asleep. Do they share the same crib/bedroom :-P :-P :-P Are you still using the same nanny? I forgot if she lived-in or out My husband and I are really considering this issue. We know a live-in will take a big load off our shoulders but we will lose privacy. On the other hand, the live-out nanny can take a break from the baby at night and come back fully energized...but it will be more work for us in the evening to watch bb. But privacy and family time are very important to us...any suggestions...
