2 questions:
(1) if my agent charged me $1000 & my maid $3000 respectively for the renewal, is it more conventient for me to do it via the agent?
(2) As the renewal must be done not more than 1 month before the expiry of contract, in case my application for renewal at the Ind. Consulate was not successful, I have no time to refer it to the agent again since agent said that I have to do it 2-3 months before the expiry of contract if I do it through them. So what to do then?

1. Whether it is convenient or not is all up to you.
2. Don't worry, the agent is just trying to frighten you and get the business + $$. Several mothers on BK were successful already. Even if you give the agent everything (all documents) 2 - 3 months before contract expiry, the agent can only go to Indo Consulate 1 month before contract expiry, like us. The agents will just keep your documents so you cannot renew contract yourself.
But 1 thing is true - you need to take leave for at least 1 session, or 2 sessions at most :
- 1 for attending the "interview" with Indo Consulate (which you MUST attend),
- the other one about 6 days later for collecting the endorsed new contract from Indo Consulate and going to HK Imm Dept right away to complete visa extension procudures and get a valid visa for your DH to work for your 2nd contract term (if your Indo DH is smart she can go to HK Imm Dept alone without you, so it is NOT compulsory that you go to HK Imm Dept). The wait at HK Imm Dept in my case was 1h5mins from the time I placed the form in their tray until I walked out of Imm Dept.
