SMC stands for? My son went to WKF (Shatin) for interview today. Tomorrow will be St. Margaret. Quite a few of my son classmates applied YW as well. I didn't applied for this school cos my Cantonese is not so gd. I scared that there will be too many homework in Chinese & my son will not be able to finish them all. So I didn't choose school which uses Cantonese to teach Maths & Science.
I've seen the P1 allocation result on Zenith's notice board. SL seem to have more students applying DSS school & private school. SL seem to have a better P1 allocation result.
Hi lovelyfrog,
SL has gov subsidy for both local & bilingual classes but not for International. My son in the International Stream, he has gov subsidy becos he was born in 2004. However, my girl won't have subsidy if I enroll her into International stream. Frankly speaking, I found Zenith's staffs & teachers friendlier & more helpful. Anyway, they are both gd school lah!
Sim,
SMC = St Margaret Co-ed, your son will be interviewed by St Margaret tmr?? They just start receving application last week, rite? Deadline is end of September, you have interview arranged already??? I cant tell if the SL's result is better but think that maybe more SL's parents will target DSS while Zenith's not. Maybe Zenith's parents just want to boost up their kids' standard so that they can pick up primary work easily iso targeting to DSS, I am not sure; but I will just make use of their rather difficult syllabus then go DSS hoping that he can learn differently than that in Govt school. Back to primary, I think YW is very good in terms of its history, reputation (image), I also have concern for their language environment, but I was impressed by their headmistress after attending the admission talk; in fact I like the syllabus of SMC and it's language environment, dont think too much now, I tell my hubby that our trouble is just either too many acceptance or none at all, not now anyway. Shatin is not convenient for us so I didnt pick any. Good luck to us both!
Fanny, lovelyfrog,
you can also consider Topkids in TSW. But I donno their primary school result, I like their envionment from the school website, didnt visit at all, if Zenith keeps doing well, I wont consider other.
Thank you for your sharing.
both of you have a very good English!
Actually, I don't know where the school you mentioned of YW/SMC/WKF. Are they all DSS or private? I think they all are not in Yuen Long.
I don't wanna send my girl so far away from home. It's quite hard for just a little child. I just can choose YL or TSW for her future except we move to another place.
Yes. I saw the P.1 allocation result in SL is quite good. So, I will consider SL. However, if my girl loves Zenith, I will let her stay coz both schools have a good English standard.
Next week, I can take my girl to school la. very happy!
SL is really good? I have a friend who just moved in YL and her son will also study in SL K3 pm class. She has many network in the education world, she also chooses SL as she said SL is in the group of York (I just knew from her days ago!). I donno how good SL is indeed but just think Zenith is already good enough to me, but now u gals drive me to get more info about this
ha! N1B have many BB bite another ar!
oh! good lunck , my son only one time bite another child finger ! Sorry ar ! i came back talk to him Don't biting la! Everyday b4 go to school remain him la! he said Don't biting & shareing with another la!
SL is related to York. I think they taught the same thing. SL allocation is not bad lah! One or 2 students can even enter DBS & DGS. There are also many others DSS liked TSL, PK, WKF, YW, Joseph Lee, etc... More 'variety' I can say.
My mother-in-law is staying in Shatin therefore I will apply both WKF & PK. However, WKF's school fee is quite high. And, PK uses more Mandarin during the first few yrs. They are not my first choice.
Actually if you are not aiming for DSS, any kinders will be the same. Balloting don't consider which kinder your girl was studying. If you are planning for DSS & don't wish to move out of YL, there are still a few choice for you. 1) WF Joseph Lee (TSW), 2) PLK Yuen Yuen (TM) & 3)Lutheran Academy -this is a new DSS, will be location just near our estate (马田). It will be using IB standard ( sorry! I also don't know what is IB) & school fee not cheap. It will start next yr.
Actually you can still apply for SL after the deadline if there still have the vacancy they will accept your kid. However if you want AM session you must apply earlier becos most of them want this session. During my son application (in 2006), I applied quite late (in Jan) & I can't get a place in AM session.
Thank you for your advice. Actually, you know much of primary schools. I know nothing!
I have no idea to choose DSS or gov't schools. I like DSS coz they have a good environment in English, however, they have no secondary school to continue. (I mean in Yuen Long). I heard from BK, there will have a new DSS school near the 原築, but I don't know how much of it? & how good of it?
So, I think I try to take it easy. For which kinders can success, she studys in there.
Actually, what do you think how good of DSS vs gov't school?

Sim,
How's the international stream in SL? Do they have full day class? Will hand the application to smc tmr, did you attend their admission talk, what do u think of smc indeed? You can read the forum of "international school" in BK to know more about IB, I will also apply the Lutheran Academy for my son.
Fanny,
DSS has their right to choose students, all kids have to go through interview; while govt school mainly rely on the 'lucky draw' so the standard of kids will vary and usually govt school will stick to the syllabus and resouces guided by the education bureau while DSS has more flexibility in syllabus design and also teaching resources (more NET can be hired as they have school fee from the parents) - same as the difference between kinda accepting the "voucher scheme" or not. But bear in mind that all are good schools, govt schools (kinda or primary) are also good schools and there are always brilliant students from govt school, just their approach is different.
