Well, if you cannot take that, I cannot imagine how you can study in overseas. Many foreigners look down on Chinese because we speak with the wrong grammar and pronunciation. It's hard to practice pronunciation by writing but definitely would improve your grammar if you read more and practice more. If you want people to admire you and give you compliment, you need to have something solid that people can admire first.
I believe that if you can be more humble at the beginning, you won't be being picked on. However, I can tell you that many of the BK members are very nice and helpful. If you ask about childcare information, you would find BK a treasure for you to exploit. Other than learning English, I think that you have to learn to be humble and nice first before you expect others treating you the same way.
