Re: Markham / Richmond

my elder daughter's name is Agatha - started with "A" as she was born in August (i told my husband to have name started with "A"). My husband gave her this name as he is fan of Agatha Christie. younger one is called Marcella, as she was born in May. My husband was reading an issue with author's name as Marcella xxxx on her date of birth in the hospital. I have chosen over 50 Chinese names for them, and have my uncle to calculate (according to date/time of birth etc), then gave me about 4 -5 each to choose from.

Re: Markham / Richmond

Ha ha ha, doggie, poohpoohmama & Ckkwl

In fact, I also can't catch some of your name too.
Most of your name are so "uncommon". :) :)

My husband do not have an English name, he only have
English translation of his Chinese name. So it is difficult to catch. The Engish Translation of his last name is "Lo". However it reads "Law" in Chinese, so I am Mrs. Lo :):):)
For his given name, I don't know how to translate how it reads in English. I will try to type it in Chinese to you guys later :):)

Ckkwl, you are so thoughtful in choosing your daughter's name ar. I now can catch it la, thanks... :))

ckkwkl

I could talk to your husband for the agatha christie. i still got few of her books in the self... others are threw away before I moved in here.

and are you born in EVENING, so your name start with E

may be I could act as the stage manager and put your 2 girls to be the Toronto Twins.... then I don't need to afraid not having a job in few months time...

hello Mrs. Lo, I am Mrs. Wong, but I used to keep my maiden name.. so better call me Miss Chau le

by the way, does any one know how to apply the health card for a senior people?

my MIL does not have enough document. all she has is the passport, SIN card and the citizienship card. her bank account has no bank statement. She does not carry any insurance policy in canada, no driver license... do you think the gov't will grant her the health card?

MIL is happy as i took a day off yesterday to take her around. buying all sorts of things.
all the shoese (5 pairs) she bought over is not warm enough for the winter...(may be good for HK, but not here). so need to go buy winter shoes for her.

went to shoppers for the grab bar, walking cane.. and others health facilities accessories for the senior.. so busy schedule for the past 3 days... and more to come....

Re: Markham / Richmond

my name was given by my father - on my birth certificate. it was the name of his secondary school.

she has the right to apply for the health card as she is a citizen, but you must have proof of address. does she have the old card, or else need to claim loss to apply for the new one.

my mother got her proof of address from bank by asking the bank to send her a letter, but this may vary from branch to branch and different bank. or else, just open another bank account for her, then you will get proof of address right the way.

my mother is holding a dinner party at pacific mall with those people singing "chinese songs" on 3/23 friday (dinner in restaurant), seems to be $28 per ticket. if she is interested, let me know. i am not interested in any of those "chinese songs"; and will just go to eat

Re: Markham / Richmond

Hi Doggie,

Regarding the health card, I just get it last year. I think the document she has is okay. Just that I think she need a "prove of address". There is a list from OHIP that show what kind of prove of address is valid, they are quiet specifiic, please take a look at their list.

The effective date of the OHIP is the date she "arrived" Toronoto, so even she need a little time to get the prove of address, it won't affect her effective date.

Re: Markham / Richmond

ckkcwl,

wah, your dad is so "king" ah... study in that school so long time ago.

Caron can celebrate birthday with Agatha! She is also born in August.

doggie,
doesn't the bank will mail your MIL the bank card? Unless you open up an account from PC Bank. Anyway, she will need to wait 3 months to get the OHIP cover. You can try to gather documents within these 3 months.

poohpoohmama

yes, we went to the HSBC to open a new bank account which will have the bank statement.. yes, she got 3 months time to do so.. so just wait.

also, when checking on her passport, she wasn't "stamped", so now we could only have her boarding pass to show she came on Jan 4.

I went to wal-mart, home depot, sears, home outfitter or so but they just go the normal bath mat to put on the bath tub, but not in shower stall...

Re: Markham / Richmond

doggie,

I am not sure the product you are looking either...

But have you checked

Medigas
385 Bentley Street
Markham L3R 9T2 Canada
Phone: 416-365-1050
Fax: 416-365-0092
Homecare: 416-365-1700
1-866-446-6302

They sell professional homecare products. May cost more, but you can order from the catalog. Also there is a homecare store on Woodbine and 16th which is the branch of Shoppers Drug Mart homecare. Check it out.

Or you are just looking non-skid product? My prenatal class teacher suggested a product which you pour it on a dry shower tub (has to be certain material, not plastic), it can create a non skid surface for a year. Let me know if you are looking for something like that.

Re: Markham / Richmond

poohpoohmama
we tried the shopper health center (16th /woodbine), they don't carry such u-shape bath mat anymore.. will try to see if medigas got such or not.

otherwise, ckkwkl just called me to give me a name of the chinese grocery store in market village.. will try out this weekend ...

yes we are looking for the non-skid product, but does not want to pour stuff over it... simply wish to be easy removable, as she might stay with my BIL or SIL here and there, so could just pull things out and install in other home to use during her stay..

Re: Markham / Richmond

rabbit,

I heard about this program, but never tried it. I highly recommand Canoe. I have been there once; the food is great and the service is super! $35 for the full course of dinner would worth the money.

Actually I really tried its sister restaurant like Auberge du Pommier for special occassion but just want to "save my wallet". But I wish I could go again.

Thanks for your recommendation. My friends also suggest Canoe ar, they said the view is really good too.

My friends also suggest "Truffles" and "Epic". They said that Truffles is famous and the menu of Epic is good.
See finally what comes up!!! :)

no, it is not require GP referral. MIL used to go to the clinic as not that common to have such nail clipping in HK.

here not sure if those nail beauty will do the foot too? as most of them are nail polish. foot massage - that's I am not sure and ask if any mom know if they try that before - if they take customer for foot nail clipping only - no massage, no polishing. :-|

Re: Markham / Richmond

doggie,

I see. The nail beauty in downtown do the foot nail too. I guess those in uptown may do the same. They usually come with a package with polish and massage, but I think if to talk to those run by Chinese, they probably will do it for a reduced package for elderly.
