其實之前我都沒有特別留意家中大小expenses,買野食野旅行都好隨心冇預算。自從結咗婚使咗一大筆跟住又有了ｂｂ,即時陣腳大亂…從那時才開始醒覺…連我媽咪都話我 ”浪子回頭”…Ha ha

1.Private health insurance usually is a complementary insurance, but not a replacement of medicare.
For example, Medicare 只cover 85% of the total treatment fee or whichever is less than $52.5. One can use Private health insurance to pay the difference.

2.Another reason most people have private health insurance in australia is to avoid the long waiting lists for specialist appointments and non-emergency hospital treatment. (呢個原因同我地香港睇私家專科的原因差唔多)Beside, patients are able to choose their own doctor and hospital.

我尋日去左細女學校搞既autumn fair,好鬼抵死,好多野玩,有機動遊戲,bungy jump,pillow fight同pony ride tim,又有好多stalls,每個family仲要整cake返去賣,都幾好玩,但要好多家長落手蓉腳做埋義工,係oz既小學生涯真係happy到暈.

OZ小學同hk小學生活真係一個天一個地,無功課無默書,已經係最殺食.上到中學就好d,但都無hk咁多功課既,可能加上佢地無咁多課外活動,無學咩學咩咁,所以更加休閒.測驗叫評估,多數係比grade,唔似hk差0.x分就跌左幾十個全級排名,當然輕鬆好多.不過講到心情,做父母真係好矛盾,又怕佢地太放鬆水平唔夠高,又怕佢地只埋堆亞洲人,學英文學得慢.好似細女到依家都只係得一個朋友friend d,只係同佢玩,因為那女孩識講廣東話,佢地連上堂都互相講廣東話,都幾煩惱.
二小姐最近要做閱讀報告,係hk見到英文story book就奏眉頭既佢,竟然肯乖乖地在房自己睇哂一本唔薄既fiction,今日同佢行書店,竟然肯買英文小說睇,(比著以前就已經拉左我走),係hk咁多年都培育唔到佢既閱讀興趣,依家見有d起色,真係幾開心.佢地詞彙就真係幾弱,好多生字唔識解,希望keep住咁既態度,假以時日,大有進步啦.

見到你家二小姐由被動變主動去睇英文story book,己經知道佢進步左好多.唔洗擔心佢淨系埋亞洲人堆,這是人之常情,我地大人見到同聲氣都會傾得多D啦!另外vabcal是由平時生活和學習上堆積和儲存既,我相信唔洗一年,佢地識既vabcal己經多到可以出書了. :lol:
見到你家大少、大小姐和二小姐都在無壓力和愉快既學校生活,我都好登你開心呀!

你一家去Oz生活,你再諗下值得嗎?做左四個月"啊四靚太"習慣了吧?

比你返HK長住唔要"賓賓姐姐"還可以吧?

Me and my family went to city for "Thailand culture and food festival" today. We ate alot and took a lot of photos!!!!

After the festival, we went to the Queen Victoria Market to bought some fruits and veggies....then back home for tidy up the house

What a busy but happy weekend!!!

Welcome! As you can see, I'm a Brisbane mom ... sometimes I'll come here to hijack the Melbourne moms' thread to 八卦.

When you said "Medicare 只cover 85% of the total treatment fee or whichever is less than $52.5. One can use Private health insurance to pay the difference.", were you referring to out-patient or in-patient expenses? According to my understanding, private insurance only pays for in-patient related expenses. If there are private insurance covering out-patient expenses, I'll be very interested to know.

Regarding specialists, whether you hold private health insurance or not will not affect your appointment. If you do not wish to spend any money and would like to be a public patient, you can queue up with the public hospital for specialist consultation/treatments. As long as you have a referral letter from your GP, you can go to see any private specialist of your choice (or your GP's recommendation). After the consultation, you pay the specialist and then go to Medicare to claim your entitlement.

照你經驗是否唔洗買private insurance 都可以照睇private specialist ,不過要自己pay左先向 Medicare claim返$$呢?如自己唔夠$$比先,就要慢慢排public hospital for specialist consultation/treatments 呀?

我知系HK要排public hospital 睇specialist consultation/treatments 嫺嫺地要10個月至1年先輪到, :evil: 如果有咩暗病又緊急而自己又唔知,加上又無$$睇private specialist,輪到public hospital 睇既時候分分鐘都無得救.好慘! :-( 唔知Oz既public hospital 輪侯期有無咁淒慘呢? :cry:

I am really sorry that i confused you. My information source was my hubby who returned from Melbourne donkey years ago... so he is possibly wrong. Please do double check with MBF or HCF.

But what we can clarify here is that private health insurance usually offers 2 types of insurance: hospital and ancillary.
Hospital cover contributes to the cost of in-hospital treatment and accommodation as private patient in private or public hospital.
Ancillary cover contributes to the cost of out-patient medical services that aren't covered by Medicare, such as dental treatment, spectacles and contact lenses, physiotherapy,acupuncture, chiropractic and other althernative therapies.Besides, ambulance is included as well. But the ancillary covers usually have payment limits, both per visit limits and annual limits.

The benefits provided by medicare are based on a schedule of fees, when a doctor (in and out patient) charges more than the schedule fee, patients must pay the extra cost. Medicare pays 85% of the schedule fee or the schedule fee minus $52.5. (bare in mind it was 2001's figure)

Devlin mama, you are right that patient are usually free to choose their own doctor and hospital with or without a private insurance. Private insurance only ensures that you receive the medical treatment you need, when you need it.

Hope these won't confuse you further.....
