"Your hubby's sperm was rather weak".... is this based on the result on the day of IVF or a previous semen analysis? Your argument holds and your Dr should have better communication between you and the lab. Not to clear the lab from poor decision-making, but sometimes I do see sperm which turned up to be much better on the day of IVF as compared to previous semen reports. This is the time when we may try to do ivf on a few eggs so that you may get embryos from ivf instead of icsi. Probably this was the reason behind 6 eggs for IVF and 12 eggs for ICSI in your case.


I often call icsi as "forced fertilization", because we deliberately put one sperm into an egg; but icsi does not increase the potential of an egg. If an egg is not good, even after it is fertilized, it will not develop into a good embryo. Believe it or not, I had a couple about two months ago who had borderline sperm results; yet they insisted to put at least half of her eggs to IVF, and to transfer all the ivf embryos first before other icsi embryos. Just to let you know how some people can be very concerned on the extra intervention from ICSI.

Any freezing carries a small risk of damage, sometimes it is the freezing procedure that causes the damage and sometimes it is the embryo itself that cannot withstand the process. Freeze-thaw and then re-freeze within a short time is not a reason. Check with your Dr or the lab to make sure they will do re-freezing for you.

Really thanks yr time spent to hear my story!


Actually, the sperm result is tested on the day of ET, and similar to previous years' report!
I did ask my nurse in charge on the morning before ET whether my eggs would be done with icsi as well. She replied me that the doctor & embryoist will made the best decision for me after the procedure, and I trusted them.....


Of course, as what u mentioned, I am also keen for IVF at the beginning instead of icsi as I hv read some research papers that icsi may develop higher disability babies, but I hv no second or better choice than icsi, only icsi is the solo method to give us chance.....


Actually, I think I am still lucky to hv 10 embryos in hands after some unnecessary wastage....
So far, I hv no chance to meet the dr or the embryoist for further clarification until I do the FET in next next cycle, I don't intend to blame anyone for the decision making , but just think that I deserve better ' service' for nearly $100,000 payment!



I will forget the hard feeling right now and move on, hope I can give u gd news after my 1st FET!

我是星期六告訴代診醫生打了安胎針, 她找不到胎囊(5W2D), 要求再驗血,
但驗血要星期一才有結果, 當星期一在電話中代診醫生HCG108, 可能她忘記了我打了安胎針

如HCG回落，即沒懷孕，我想盡快放餘下的胚胎, 大約相隔多少久?

我先生2012年初做了割包皮手術及工作壓力大，導致不能射精。我想請問是否可以抽精，然後用iui定係ivf呢？謝謝。

I've been reading up and following this thread for some time now. I learned a lot from Jm's questions and your professional answers. I appreciate your help in giving us guidance and support in IVF procedures.
I will be doing ivf soon for the very first time. A bit scared. I would like your advice on the following:
I will be traveling from hong kong to the States next month and will be spending couple of weeks there. When I get back to hong kong, I would be about 14 days into my cycle (my cycle is usually around 31/32 days). Should I start the IVF procedure as soon as possible (ie start of my period) or should I wait one more cycle after I return to hong kong?
I would like to know if traveling and adjusting to time zones affect my hormones and affect IVF outcome?

我8月頭開始做ivf, 打了5支針後去照卵，點知個醫生話好失望，只得1粒卵，所以唔見議再進行落去，我連抽卵資格都無，佢話不如試iui，但成功率8%以下， 又話者自然授孕。其實自然授孕都試了三年，都成功。我今年38，我先生精子形態差1%only。

如下個 cycle 再試ivf , 係咪結果都一樣 ？

Hello Hihopes,

Will you be on a fun trip or a business trip? You have a concern about time zone adjustment. Usually, it does not matter; but since you think it may affect, you may wait a little till the next cycle. Afterall this is only going to delay things for ~a month, but it saves a lot of stress & worries!

One note for you is to make sure your doctor will start you on day 1 of your cycle. Some protocols will prepare the woman around day21 of her preceding cycle.

先生的精子數量和活動力怎樣？若兩者都OK(數量在每毫升15,000,000或以上、總活動力有40%或以上），不妨一試IUI.

你說已試咗3年，周期準嗎?排卵計得準嗎?有冇其他生理問題，如腹腔黏連、子宮內膜異位等等?

如果等下cycle再ivf，醫生會根據今次卵巢對針藥的反應作微調，結果有機會會好少少，但可能亦會一樣，視乎你其他症候和賀爾蒙指標。跟醫生商量一下，我覺得你這一刻不用太灰心。

先生精子數量和活動力都無問題
周期亦非常準，會次都在排卵do do. 吃中藥調理巳經有一年多，有 keep住食葉酸及維它命e, 巳做了一般檢查，大都無問題 ，黃銅體都好好， 每月體温都可以看到有排卵，不過未 check 輸卵管。

真係好灰，心情簡直係谷底, 我和先生兩個都不煙不酒，早睡早起， 點解個天要咁對我

Dear Pekoccc,

不要太灰心，這次cycle可轉IUI,不成功再算。我中心也有像你的個案成功的。

我個人立場是不建議姊妹一邊食中藥一邊做ivf，或先中藥調理後ivf。中藥調理無不可，但需時，而往往要做ivf的人最缺乏是時間，因時間不能倒流。完成中藥調理，究竟中間要隔多久才適合做ivf呢?那又花上不知幾個月。

如你今次不成功，請與醫生商量再試是否合適，應該可以的，加油!

是時候找個ivf醫生問問吧，可能要少許身體檢查，如賀爾蒙指數、病歷等等，有時未必要即做ivf的。

I am asking for my fd:
She has done ivf in Taiwan in August cycle.
But she got 4 cells only and 2 success to fertilized.
She failed this time and have no storage of eggs.
She wants to start a new cycle.
Are there Ny suggestion of interval for ivf cycles? Coz it's need to injected a lot of hormones, she's a bit worry.
But it's difficult to ask a Taiwan doctor.

Do you still remember me?
Just would to say THANK YOU for all your supports and advice throughout my IVF journey!! Since you know I had gone through quite a lot of hiccups, and you really lifted me up while I was feeling upset and discouraged!
Time really flies, I am already 33weeks pregnant and my baby estimated due date is Nov 27
I am lucky that I didn't have much problem throughout my pregnancy, except suffering from OHSS at the very beginning stage Other than that, I am so blessed that am doing alright and the baby is also doing fine and healthy!
I wish you all the best and hope you can help more JMs here and they all get bingo very soon!
