Actually it depends on which area you live in, of course, if you plan to live in Box Hill, then you may need to wait 2, 4, 6, 8 or 10 months or if you are as lucky as me(I wait for 3 weeks only), if you choose to live in some new developing area, it will be more easier to have vacancy in childcare.
I hope the information can help you.

JA6803,
May i check with you about the waiting period for the child care service in melbourne?
not yet, we are thinking to do it in one goal...if possible. that's why i am trying very hard to plan everything in advance.
因為未被"炒"....you are so funny...
thanks a lot for the info. i hope we can be as lucky as you. we tend to stay around city because of work, i guess we need lots of luck in this case....
The weather in Sydney is too. Very hot these two days but will rain for the next three days according to the weather forecast. Hope mel and brissie are too.
What is 第4 and 5期制水? What are the restrictions? I am not sure in Sydney, as far as I know, there are washing cars restrictions.
Some Level 4 restrictions:
- outdoor watering with a bucket of water or watering can only on your allocated days (e.g. even number house on Wed/Fri/Sun) and between 4 am to 8 am and 4 pm to 8 pm
- can only clean car with a bucket of water
Some Level 5 restrictions:
- target to cut personal water consumption to 140 litres per person per day (for instance shower once a day only and 4 minutes at most each time)
- outdoor watering reduced to two days a week and only between 4 am to 8 am.
- can only clean the windscreen, windows, mirrors and car plates of the car. If you really need to wash the car, go to the commercial car wash as they use recycle water
- can't clean the roof/external areas/windows of your house unless it's a preparation for painting.
