I will hv C-section this sun. I would like to hv breast feeding for my bb. but doctor said I am not able to feed bcos I cannot go down to bed first two day. How/what can I do? should I give milk power to bb first or any suggestion? tk u so much for all of yr help in advance :lol:

you can lie down comfortably to breastfeed your newborn. it is important to feed your bb asap (when you are conscious after the c-section). of course, you need help from others. early bf is crucial for successful bf. the longer the delay, the more difficult. not sure if the nurses in the private hospital are helpful enough to help you.

the nurses in public hospitals are, in general, helpful in this aspect.

tk u so much for yr adv. but not sure whether it is allow to put my bb in my bed...the only arrangment is go out to bb feeding room to feed.....i will try my best to fight for it tmw. tks again

我八月尾係浸會生完, 都係開刀,

the first day, my BB was born at around 1pm, then she was kept in the warmer for 4 hrs (all BB does)
then I have to lay on bed overnight.. so I can't go to BF room to feed BB.
actually, nurse will feed yr BB by bottle (u have to specify what kind of formula u use when u check-in)

the 2nd day, when I was able to leave the bed and walk, I rush to BF room, and learn how to BF.
but my BB does not really suck, or only suck for a few times, then fell asleep lar..:cry: seems all newborn BB fell asleep easily during BF. then u may need to ask the nurse to give u formular to feed BB.

situation does not really improve when I left the hospital on day 5. even during the first month.. she fell asleep quickly whenever I put my nipple to her mouth.

but pls don't give up, keep feeding yr BB directly everyday, in case yr BB can't suck very well, u can pump yr milk out and feed BB.. (use bottle/針筒/spoon, depends on yr choice)

BB need times to learn, also, when BB is getting bigger, she will have more power to suck.

my BB now is around 2 months, I can feed her directly, or feed by bottle.. now, as she is bigger, she is more powerful to suck without falling asleep..

also, don't give up pumping when u see u only got a few drops during early days.. (may be only 10ml, 20ml).. keep pumping, and u will see yr milk level gradually increase..

better not to give ordinary bottle to bb <3weeks old to avoid nipple confusion. my bb was fed with cup during hospital stay. try to fight for that as well. use cup/spoon/syringe. when bb has nipple confusion, the mother suffers alot. some bbs may refuse to suck from mothers' nipples. moreover, if you think you do not have enough support from nurse during hospital stay, go to lactation consultant or the maternal and child health center after discharge for bf counselling.
