Actually if this dish is for kids, there is no problem with the white wine. As this will add flavours to the dish and the alchol will evaporates during the course of cooking.
I don't even take our the "meat" from the clams, just the whole thing and add white wine cook for at least 1-2 mins...then.....even more tasty.
