Dear fellow investors,
I hope whoever ELN/minibond investors could come together and to see what we could do collectively.. I have tried to call so many organization (lehmon brothers hk, citibank ( my agent bank), hkma, democratic department, bank complaint hotline... to see if some one out there could provide me some ideas how I could approach this. No one , just no one could offer any help except for asking me to wait.. but wait for what??? ... c'mon.. I think most people that looped into this event are actually risk adverser.. decent people that just trying to park their funds into something that are with more reasonable return than the miserable less than 1% HKD FD... Given the crazy inflation over the last one year, any one that have some basic idea on real purchasing power would definitely trying to do something with their money... is that greedy? I don't think so.. caveat emptor?? well.. that is when you are not being misrepresented significantly.. take me for one.. I bought HKD half a million Lehmon brother ELN( sorri.. that is the minimum ticket fee, sales man said).. throughout the sales pitch.. emphasizing was on the three China enterprises that the paper links to.. their shares performances.. I was being upfront on worst scenerio.. and i was told that my worst was to hold shares at very expensive price.. but never once that lehmon's role as an issuer or a guarantor was mentioned as a potential risk.. Granted that was subsequently buried somewhere in a stack of 25 pages 'final' terms and conditions...and by then it is too late since it was 3 weeks after I committed and paid up... but it was not being mentioned upfront.. strangely enough, the final terms and conditions did sounded out as if I should read it before purchase.. but everything is just too late..
I am sure there are so many others like me out there.. could we have a count of head.. may be we could write a petitions to our respective agent banks and a collective one to consumer council, newspaper.. hkma.. it is always easy to igore one.. but when the story hit headline... banks would start to think about their brand names and try to do something, just like HSBC... i was so totally disappointed with Citibank... so much for being a long time citigold customers... they don't even call to advise the bad situation.. but apparently they themselves have stopped selling any lehmon brothers product for a while...just totally irresponsible...
