for mine - before the meal, i will tell her that it's time for meal and i'll then put her on high chair and i would sit in front of her + NO toys... if she started crying, i would sing some songs and feed her with little water (just a sip).
sometimes, if the baby cries, it might be because he/she is turning sleepy or that he/she feels full.
